Cup Car Question
Cup Car Question
Ok, first off, I'm an idiot on Cup Cars. I just bought a 2009 that was rarely used and will race it on occasion. So, we put it on the lift today. I was amazed to see that the exhaust is almost the same as a regular GT3 or RS. I mean it had the side and rear mufflers, etc. My question is, can this be removed and still raced, or are there PCA or NASA rules that make the exhaust stay? Fabryce, Alex, Casey, or others?
No simple answer here. Check the rules in the club(s) & class(es) you want to run. Then, a huge consideration is the sound limit at the tracks you plan to run on. Here in NorCal, all the tracks have implemented sound restrictions. Some worse than others. Bottom line, all the guys I know with Cups have had to go back to the factory exhaust. Even my bone stock GT3 blew sound at Laguna Seca!
Assuming your cup has a stock engine, you would be in ST1 or GTS5 in NASA with any changes to your exhaust.
PCA requires the car to be in stock config.
Additionally, you might want to look into the Pirreli Drivers Cup series, it has classes for 996 & 997 cups and is a lot of cups to run with.

Another question I have is about the HOURS. How do you find out the hours on the motor? Is it a Porsche Motorsports deal? I've been told a number, but I don't quite believe that number without seeing it on computer.
I think we have a misunderstanding here, let's start over. You have a cup car and have not posted pictures because of what reason?

Focus on becoming one with the car for now and leave the exhaust be. There's more time to be had with learning how to drive that car well than there is in the handful of horsepower that changing the exhaust releases. And then you don't have to worry at all about rules. It keeps you legal anywhere you might want to run it.
Based on your location, I think the Mission Food GT3 Cup series will be more appropriate for you than Pirelli.
