2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR

New racer has slightly more output than the 2011 model and features larger front wheels and new air intake ducting...

Porsche has unveiled the 2012 911 GT3 RSR, based on the previous-generation 997-series 911, and the racer is now available for racing teams everywhere for the 2012 season.
The 2012 Porsche RSR features just slightly more output than the 2011 model, with the 4.0 liter, six-cylinder boxer engine now developing 460 PS (338 kW / 454 hp) instead of the previous 455 PS (335 kW / 449 hp).
The engine is coupled to a six-speed sequential gearbox operated by paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
A few other details are new for the 2012 edition, such as the diameter of the front wheels, which has now increased by 30 mm to 680 mm, and there's a new ducting of the air intake.
The 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is specified to race in several series including the Le Mans 24-hour, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Le Mans Series, American Le Mans Series and the International GT Open.
The 911 GT3 RSR is priced at €498,000, VAT not included.

Looks amazingly sinister! I'd hate to see it in my rear view mirror.

Porsche has released details of its new 911 GT3 RSR race car. The RSR is the fastest customer 911s available and is eligible for numerous championships and events up to and including the Le Mans 24 hours.

Based on the outgoing 997-shaped 911, Porsche has chosen the 4.0-litre version of its six-cylinder boxer engine to power the RSR and it produces 454bhp in this guise (the road-going 911 GT3 RS 4.0 boasts 493bhp). Power is channeled through a sequential six-speed gearbox with steering wheel mounted paddles.

The race car takes numerous styling cues from its road going cousins. It has flared front and rear wheel arches and openings in the wheel arches that echo the 911 Turbo road car. The air scoop on the engine cover is also reminiscent of the 911 GT2 RS road car. Where it differs from its showroom cousins is its wildly dramatic styling; it's 48mm wider than the already muscular GT3 RSR it replaces.

The new 911 GT3 RSR can be raced at the Le Mans 24 Hours, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Le Mans Series, the American Le Mans Series as well as the International GT Open and in other series and races.

Hartmut Kristen, Head of Porsche Motorsport commented: 'Our customer teams can expect a technically mature, high performance race car with which they will be highly competitive at international long distance races'.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR will be available for January 2012 and will be priced from 498,000 euros plus tax, equating to around £515,000 at current exchange rates.

What is the deal with the removal/redesign of the lower rear quarter panel? Looks like somebody just chopped it off and it looks terrible IMO. I am sure it is for aerodynamics but it sure ruins the *** of a beautiful car.

According to Porsche the rear track is 1.8 inches wider. I can tell by the rear flares that it is WIDE! I like it, and I hope they do well with it.

Falken Tire has already bought a pair, and I am sure Flying Lizard will buy a pair, if not more.

Good luck, after this season, it looks like you'll need it!

function over form reduced drag which is more important than apperance

I wonder why all the cars (GT3 and rs) dont come with that turbo cut out (air induction vent on the side)

I also wish someone made a rear diffuser for gt3 and RS
