997.1 GT3 sunroof delete anyone?

I recently bought a gt3 from a friend on mine he has installed the clubs port roll cage. Which means the sunroof won't open. I don't need it anyways. But the top PF the roll cage is very tight or touching the sunroof rails and makes this sound that just bugs me.

Any help would be nice

It would be possible to replace the roof panel with a non sun roof piece. Need to talk with a body shop though.

I was thinking maybe it would be easier to just replace the roof with a carbon piece or something and taking th rails off from the inside.

You can do it either way. I did a sunroof delete on my 07GT3 last spring. Here is a thread on RL that has all the parts numbers.

IMO, it is better to replace the entire roof skin, then the sunroof itself. If you want to buy a carbon fiber piece to replace the sunroof, you can buy it from Getty Design.

Thanks Van!

I like replacing the entire skin as well I feel it's a much cleaner way to approach this mod.

Can you share how long this look? After all the parts where in that is

The total labour was about 20 hours + painting. It doesn't cost too much if you can find a headliner for a good price. I had a 996GT3 liner installed in my car, no issues at all.

Does anyone offer a carbon fiber roof for the 997.1s that is somewhat reasonable?

They seem to have good pricing. I was looking at their 1" wider front fenders for my car. I have to call and find out if those are for the wide body 996s or narrow body.

I think that is the legal to cover there butts. The roof skin doesn't provide any structural strength, so it will work. The carbon roof is $1000 more then the factory part, but is only a little lighter.

That's what I was thinking! Because like on the stock M3s the roof doesn't give support either

Carbon Fiber should be stronger than the factory roof right?
I would think it would further help the rigidity. How are they secured on? Maybe that is where the trick is! I was curious so I had to call and find out…

Just spoke with my friend that used to work for SWIFT on open wheel cars as a aerodynamics engineer and he said when you bond the Carbon fiber roof on, the new roof will make the car more rigid\sturdy. The epoxy they use, or can use I should say has a sheer strength of 3300 pounds per inch. That means each inch can take 3300 pounds of force before it is compromised!!
He also said the right way of doing it is with prep carbon and honeycomb to make it light and stronger and also suggested adding a final layer of kevlar at the bottom to make sure nothing penetrates it, comes through! "Nothing penetrates it" might not be the right to say, because I am sure with enough force, etc. it is possible.
