I love manual transmissions, but Im getting the 991 GT3 and I wonder if they had offered a manual that was slower than PDK-S, would anyone really have ordered it?
Would love to have a newer GT3 someday to compliment my 7.2 RS
Same pal... Not unless I was trying to win trophies. Sorry but my left leg and right hand would get bored and you're taking some of the best parts of controlling that engine, suspension and trans out of our hands

New generations will never know how rewarding it is when you first learn to heel&toe after some unsuccessful attempts... That feeling of accomplishment coming to a hard left and going down from gear 3 to 2 using the heel&toe technique makes you feel that you are one with your car.
PDK might be in milliseconds but manual is timeless.

i'm guessing that 95% of the people buying it would have ordered it with a manual...and there would have been a lot more people interested in buying one, whatever porsches reason for doing it, its wrong
i certainly wont be buying one in the future, i very likely would have if it was available stick

It's the wrong choice from a driver's car POV, yes. From the business POV, well there are many reasons and I don't claim to have the big picture correct but in order to avoid being left behind they have to forge ahead technology-wise and that means the halo car has to be PDK.
Don't forget, we are aging and Porsche has to chase a younger market, one that may never have driven any kind of manual transmission.
FWIW, from the description they've done a wonderful job with it.
Best quote ever! The sad thing is, most future owners will never take the new faster GT3 to the track so PDK-S is useless.
Have you guys driven other automated manual transmissions? I have to admit, the PDK feels as sloppy as my old auto trans in my 2007 BMW 335i with steering wheel paddle shifters. I'd swear there's a torque converter and not a wet clutch if I didn't know better and took the car out for a drive without knowing what it was.
The DCT's from Getrag - like the one in my '13 BMW M3 is awesome. I can FEEL the shift in my fingers and through my body - even on the fastest setting of less than 20 milliseconds (with M3 GTS upgrade). It's awesome. I don't get ANY feeling in the PDK of the 997.2 Turbo S. Hopefully there is some software out there to make the PDK more "engaging" but for now I'm pretty disappointed in that aspect of the PDK. The steering wheel paddle shifters may be part of the problem. They feel "sloppy" and there is a noticable lag from when I pull the paddle to when the shift occurs. Not this way with the M3.
So if I had the 991 GT3, I'd want the Getrag DCT, not the PDK. If no Getrag DCT option, I'd go with the old school manual trans.
