Michelin Tires

Posted this question on another site but wanted to get your opinions. I have a 2011 GT3RS with Cup tires. I drive on the street primarily and wanted to change to Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They're non "N" rated in my size and my dealer says if I put them on my warranty will be voided. Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks

I put a set of MPSS on my 10 GT3 which is CPO and the dealer never said a word. I'd look for another dealer if possible.

If they want to push the legalities of it, the dealer is absolutely correct and non N rated tires will VOID your warranty (if reported off course).

Is that specifically stated in the owners manual?

I read another thread about it, some may have the same construction specs but may not be branded as such.

Don't put a set of non N spec tires on the car but please continue to use our IMS bearings, cam bolts and rod bolts. The Management.

here's another data point for you - put on the PSS, no one cared. my dealership even helped me source PSS's when i couldn't find a set. they did, however, tell me that they were not allowed to install them since they are not OEM.

I read where Porsche Roadside service will only work on an "N" rated tire.

Look into your Warranty book and also you can call Porsche North America. I totally agree with other posts that this is a douchy move by Porsche, but there is not much you can do about it if you go in for warranty work and they decided to enforce it.

Most times the dealer will tell you anything as at the end of the day it will not be their issue, but a legal issue. I know a dealer who will call you and work with you (they will even swap out the tires) if that became an issue. I also know a dealer that will mark these things on their repair order and will include it as part of the car's history.

Going to non-N rated tires you'll take your chances. I went for a non-CPO car with an after market warranty where these things play little role or no role at all.

Please keep us informed as to what you hear and what the dealers say.

Cheers.

Magnuson-Moss violation?

So what exactly are they warranting with N-rated tires? If anything, a non-N tire will have less grip or a less stiff sidewall, which means a quicker "breakaway" in traction or better bump absorption.

I can't even imagine an impact on the LSD.

Again, what exactly could they claim wouldn't be under warranty? It doesn't make sense AND as a DOT approved replacement, sounds like a MMW violation to me.

I have run MPSS on my 997.2C2S and have absolutely loved them. For me, In Colorado, they are good down to 28-32 degrees, with damp conditions (not ice, not snow).

I took the OEM tires off, and since I am trading in for a 991 GT3, I WILL PUT THE N-spec tire back on. I personally think it is BS. The DOT would not allow an unsafe tire, period. It is politics as far as I am concerned. The test mules of the 991 all had MPSS running on them...but maybe, just maybe, Michelin didn't "bite", and felt the street cred with the Ferrari 458 was enough. Just my opinion.
