3m Clear Bra pricing, pieces

Was thinking of putting the 3m on one or two of the RS's. I have these on a few others that i drive, and while purists might not love the idea, i dig it. i can deal with seeing that microscopic line, but i hate unnecessary pin heads and stone chips on the car.

I called one or two places in my area, a guy i had used before who was reasonably and did a great job.

He came back with a wild price.

so my questions are:
1. what parts of the RS would you 3m? i was thinking full hood, front chin, f&r backs of wheel wells, side mirrors and i think thats it. anything else that i should cover?

2. what do you think that should run for parts & install?

3. anyone know anyone good in north jersey?

thx in advance.

what's wild may i ask? i don't argue with those who don't want to pay for a quality job. this stuff can be done cheap or expensive but certainly done right is the key. u can't compare the job unless u see them up close. i've seen tons both great work & bad work. the difference is obvious.

here's what i have covered:
entire hood
entire fenders
headlights
entire front bumper
entire sides
mirrors
wherever the decals are

now here's the deal. the RS didn't come with any side protection like regular 997 because of the GT3RS decal. i've seen RS got chipped badly on the side with less than 100 miles. get that covered asap if u're doing it anyway. otherwise i wouldn't drive it without it. i also have the entire decals covered (bra ends about half inch above the decal) because i don't want to deal with decal lifting down the road. also because the decals are covered u don't have to worry about detailing/waxing the car. just makes more sense if u ask me.

First, thanks for the detailed response. Your response is why i love these boards, tons of info. Thx.

Let me restate a bit...."wild...compared to what i've paid before on some cars". I've done several 911s include my 997 Turbo, full hoods, side mirrors, chin, wheel wells, etc. and its been about , lets say $800. i was quote $1500 for the GT3RS, hence my use of the word "wild". and that did NOT include the decals on side panels, etc.

so, is that wild or not?
know anyone here in NJ area?

thoughts?
thx again in advance.

give Sam @ Premier a call. they do jobs out of states if schedule works out for them. best job u can possibly find if money is not subject. they're on the ''wild'' side but expect the best.

I also did the orange painted center counsel and in front and behind the back wheels on my RS. (The 944 had that done from the factory.) Another place I had the CF door stills because you can scratch them every time you get in.

Good Luck!

spg993tt - I had Top of the Line Tint in Lodi, NJ clear bra (3M) my 997S. They work on a lot of high end car cars (Carrera GT's, Murci's, etc.) and did a very nice job on mine. Feel free to PM me for more details.

I used Detailing Dynamics of Mineola, Long Island, NY and they did an amazing job in one day....I had the full hood, front end, headlight surrounds, rockers, rear hip (front aspect) and door sills and fog/headlamps and front and rear wheel well edges....enclosed are a couple of pics of their work before I pulled away from their shop (my wife is driving our white GT3 in one of the pics) the green RS is of another car they recently completed as well.

It is well worth it to have this done if you want to drive/track and not worry about your car's finish

consequences of 3m coating

Has anyone had any experience removing or replacing this film? Does it leave any discoloration?

no if the paint is OE from factory. be careful for repainted stuff though. paint might come off when removing the bra/film.

what do you mean by do the sides. The door, or along the bottom of the door and then up the back quarter panel over the rear wheels? Thats what I was thinking of doing including the whole front and mirrors. and top center of the rear wing.

I think he means on the back panel in front of the rear wheel. That's where all of the other 911's have protection.

BTW, why the wing? I would think pretty low chance of chipping there.

Rick,
i'll post some pics later. too lazy to take them.

after u see the pics u'll understand. i also had the carbon wing covered like u described as well the decklid where the ''GT3RS'' logo is. i just don't want to wax around the logo chances are i might damage the cheap sticker.

seattle sun,
it's not much about chipping. when i had the 996 GT3 with RS wing u wouldn't believe how many people like to lay their hands on it. i just hate to see people touch it for no reason (most cases they think it looks cool). now it's covered so i don't have to worry about it as much.
