Curious: Launching a Gallardo?

My Dad bought an '07 last year. I drove it for the first time a few days ago, and not that I think it to be a "one trick pony", but just out of curiosity, is there a way to hard launch a Gallardo? I thought it could be like some Ferraris in sport mode and building up the revs for a bit, but all I seemed to accomplish was a smokey clutch. At this point, I'm assuming all I can do in trying is hurt the car.

Yes there is a "thrust control" launch. At a complete stop, turn on Sport mode, turno off ESP, without touching the brakes mash the throttle, the car will rev to 5k rpms and will launch and spin all 4 wheels. Be sure you are lined up in a straight line and enjoy.

I see. Is this something that is notably bad for the drivetrain? I understand hard launches are never good, but does this toll the car similarly to launching a new M5 does? Voiding warranties and the like?

If you want to see a video of how this is done, youtube it. Or...you can watch the top gear where you tested the lp640-4 and jeremy clarkson shows people how to do it.

No, it doesn't void the warranty as it mentioned in the user manual. Like Ron mentioned, just make sure you have a clear straight away and a real long one because you are gonna want to keep going.

Hey Ron,

Does touching the brake impact the way the car launches?

ATL,
You have gotta do it. It doesn't void the warranty as it indicated in the user manual and just think of it as a bonus feature. Have you ever watch star trek or star war? When you launch it right, it is like you are entering another dimension or galaxy.

I feel that way just stomping on it from a stand still so this will probably be even more intense. Beam me up Scottie!

With the launch mode the car is very fast from a stand still. I was driving a Z06 when I got the Gallardo and from a stand still not in launch mode I feel the car is slow off the line until it gets in the revs.
