I agree, cars are getting too big. I think the Cayenne is too big, the Macan will be great! It also sits lower to the ground, more car like. I'll be interested in the Diesel when it comes to the states, should get over 30 MPG...

It'll do easily more than 30mpg.
My SQ5 TDI (that's the 3.0 Biturbo TDI engine with 313hp and 8-speed ZF automatic) does an average of 14.3 km/liter which converts to 33.6mpg (US). Notice that I drive a lot in the mountains here, so with that 3.0TDI in the Macan you should be able to do 35mpg combined without even trying hard.

Sounds great! That's impressive for mountain driving.
I was in Europe recently and had an Audi A6 diesel rental car for two weeks. I averaged close to 35 MPG in 1500 miles of driving, mostly Autobahn and city driving. I was really impressed. I believe the A6, SQ5 and Macan diesels are all based on the same engine?
In the states it's easy to cruise at a steady speed on highways, in Europe (Germany) I was surprised how it's more like hard on gas, hard on brakes while on the Autobahn. Driving 140+ MPH was a thrill... So, I imagine it'll be easier to get better fuel economy over here. Or at least the way I drive.

Definitely true... When driving in U.S. it is much easier to get better fuel milage than over here.
The engines are indeed the same. They come in various trims. 204hp, 245hp, 258hp for the TDI and 313 hp for the BiTDI. Porsche will probably have a slightly differently programmed ECU for better gas response etc., but in the end I don't think that makes much difference for the milage.
when I travel between Switzerland and Belgium (850km, mostly at night) and drive on cruise control 135km/h (83mph) as much as possible I do get 18-19km/liter (43mpg)

I was super excited about the Macan until I saw the cargo capacity stats... only 17.7 cubic feet (with rear seats up). That's tiny! By comparision, the Q5 is 29.1 cubic feet... and the Q5 is 2" shorter overall. Maybe I'm missing something, seems oddly small.

Probably not a deal breaker for many but with 2 kids who will often be in the back this just isn't enough space for me...

No... The bootspace is almost exactly the same as the Q5. I've seen the car in L.A. And I own a SQ5. I'm sure there is some kind of misstake in the figures or so. I'll post the euro specs converted to cu.ft. later...

For what you said, it sounds like the rear seats may have been pushed back further to accommodate more leg room in the Macan and this makes a smaller cargo area than the Q5. I don't have kids and only an occasional rear seat passenger so it should fit my needs well.

Suzy,
Just curious what your euro specs say about the fuel tank capacity? I noticed on the USA website, the Macan S has a smaller tank (17.2 gallons) than the turbo. I was wondering if that could be a typo or something since the Q5 and turbo is stating the same size tank (19.8 gallons)

Bootspace Audi Q5: 540 liter or 19.07 cubic feet (seats up)
Bootspace Porsche Macan: 500 liter or 17.7 cubic feet (seats up)

Regarding fuel capacity. The Euro specs are the same than U.S. specs, but we have a no cost option to get the same 75liter (19.8 gallon) tank in both Macan S and Macan S diesel. Option code is 0M2

The 29.1 cubic feet for the Audi is when the seats are down.

Thanks... Audiusa web site lists cargo volume as 29.1/57.3 cubic feet (seats up/down). Given your comments, must be a mistake. I've seen the Q5 in person and thought that the cargo space was ok (but couldn't imagine having only half as much in the Macan).

Since you're familiar with both, I appreciate your feedback about them being similar in rear cargo room.

With the seats down it is indeed 57.3 cubic feet, not 29.1. I guess it's just a typo.... 29.1 instead of 19.1

Thanks Suzy!
I hope we'll have the same option available when the time comes.

Correct. 19.1 cuft in the Q5 (seats up). AudiUSA can't get anything right (no heated rear seat option in the Q5, seriously!?).

I'm very sure it is available, since my car has it and I know for sure it's also available on the regular Q5. At least over here, but I have no idea why that would be different in the U.S.
Don't think that, beside some minor exterior changes, there are much differences between a Euro-spec car or a U.S.-spec car, no matter if it is an Audi or a Porsche.
