Don't think that, beside some minor exterior changes, there are much differences between a Euro-spec car or a U.S.-spec car, no matter if it is an Audi or a Porsche.

The US based SQ5 also got shafted on the suspension the Euro version has. Audi needed it to maintain the light truck classification in the US if i remember correctly.

My SQ5 TDI (that's the 3.0 Biturbo TDI engine with 313hp and 8-speed ZF automatic) does an average of 14.3 km/liter which converts to 33.6mpg (US). Notice that I drive a lot in the mountains here, so with that 3.0TDI in the Macan you should be able to do 35mpg combined without even trying hard.

14.3 liters/100km... your car has some serious fuel angry...

I have a BMW 535d touring with some mods (intercooler, hybrid turbos, exhaust and tune with 442hp and 850nm) and the average fuel consumption is 7.8 liters/100km... 75% city and 25% highways.

I even drove for awhile the heavy X5 35d and the average was 12 liters/100km.

If you look closely, I corrected it already... I meant to say km/liter... Not liter/100km
The car does 7 liter/100km over 14 months and roughly 85000km

BTW: that's what the car's MMI system says. For the most accurate figure I'll have to see how much fuel in total I used. Will do that soon.

I read about this too. I guess if it's classified as a light truck compared to a car, the vehicle doesn't need to be as emission friendly or something along those lines... If my memory serves me correctly, it was somewhere around 20mm taller for the US version.

Normally I'll do somewhere around 35000-40000km a year, but the first half of this year we had to travel an awful lot between Switzerland and Belgium/Holland.

A new car is on its way since last week. This time I chose an A6 Avant with the same engine. Wanted a Macan, but since not all options are available yet and because IMO the wrong diesel engine is in the Macan, I went back to Audi.
It somehow seems a bit odd that my current SQ5 is more powerful than a Porsche that costs at least 20k premium over the SQ5. For a privat car maybe not such a big deal, but for a business car....
Couldn't get a Macan before late 2014 anyways. Dealer has sold all allocations for now and there's a long list for the next allocations that come available.

Glad this has been cleared up, currently have a paltry 9.7 cubic feet in my Golf R and really only need a bit more space

Keeping it classified as a light truck means it doesn't have to be included in the fleet average numbers for fuel economy requirements.

I said I would check the fuel consuption and it seems that the SQ5's MMI is somewhat optimistic, just like the PCM in my Boxster.

Real figures are:

86245 km
6223 liter diesel

This means 7.22 liter/100km (13.85km/liter) or 32.6mpg. Still pretty good for a car that does 0-100km/h in 5.1 sec though

When I compare this to a Q5 3.0TFSI (average 12.2liter/100km according to a dutch carowners survey), I would've needed 10621 liter petrol to get the same distance. Saved me (or my business) CHF7825 ($8600). Diesel is a little bit more expensive per liter than petrol over here, but still cheaper because of the better milage.

Sorry then for my mistake. I'm used to think only in liter/100km or miles/gallon. Didn't knew that there are people using km/liter as fuel consumption measure.

BTW, 7 liter/100km is damn low for a medium suv with such performance ability. The V6 TDI Biturbo is the perfect engine for the Macan. As well as the V8 TDI for its big brother Cayenne. It would increase even more Porsche sales and it would steal a lot of Range Rover, MB and BMW clients that choose these cars not just for having a prestige brand car but also for theirs powerful diesel engines. The current diesel technology is super efficient in fuel economy and produces lots of torque that help moving heavy cars. It makes a lot more sense to use them instead of the big petrol n/a engines.

Sedans always have better fuel economy due to better aero and longer gears (higher top speed). And if it is 2wd then the fuel save will be even greater. If ground clearence is an issue, then there is sedans with pneumatic suspension as a option that raise the car for tough roads. At least the MB CLS with airmatic in the higher setting looks almost lke a 4x4.

About australian roads you reminded me the top gear episode where they made a trip with a subaru wrx wagon, bmw 528i touring and a volvo r station....

My $0,02?

Get an Audi A6 Allroad with a diesel engine. Best non-SUV allrounder and it comes as standard with air suspension that has a decent off-road setting. It has great fuel economy and inside it's as luxurious as an A8 (depends on how the car is equipped of course)

Is the Macan about the same size as an Evoque of larger?
