Front License Plate

Hello all. I really like the look of my boxster (2002) without the front plate on there, but I have had experience with police in the past (specifically Stafford) who have been hard about not having it. Has anyone from the Alexandria area had any experience with this. Also, is it lawful to put the tag in the windshield? Lastly, if I do get pulled over for it, are there any good excuses I can use?

VA requires a front plate? I didn't know that. In MD they are required.

I got a new GT3 bumper a couple months back and I told the shop to leave the plate off. It's sitting in the pouch for my spare tire. If I get pulled over I'll say I just got the bumper and haven't had a chance to put the plate on yet.

one of our members (exlondoner) i believe has a retractable plate. I think you fold it down, then push it back in to the bumper or something. They sell them overseas (probably the UK...hahahaha), anyway, you can just say, someone must have been messing with your plate and folded it down if they give you crap for it.....now, that's an out....

Go to Summit Racing. They have them there. Show and Go license frame for $50. I just bought and am planning to install on mine this weekend. Got one for the Cobra and BMW too.

I've seen that retractable plate! It was at the last meet that Bull put together in Montgomery County this past fall. All these guys with their fancy cars and they're all standing around marveling at this license plate. If was funny.

hows that make it a honda? Most hondas have it duct taped up there lol they cant afford suction cups. However, I know plenty of people that do it. Better to have it up there then in the back seat and get a ticket.

Most laws that I know of say it must be "unobstructed" and even having a clear cover over it can be illegal. But I used to have mine up there before the vanity plate... and never got in trouble for it once. Then again I dont drive a luxury car... so they might not of paid much attention to that and more to the whole 'speeding' aspect.

So apparently Section 46.2-716 states:

A. Every license plate shall be securely fastened to the motor vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer to which it is assigned:
1. So as to prevent the plate from swinging

So I guess those flip away holders are illegal too.
