Home Security Camera Systems

Anybody have these, and what are your thoughts for good companies to call that service the Northern VA Area..... Here's a couple I found just on google. Looking for a system that I can also monitor from the internet or my Droid (Google Phone):

1.) Shadow Security: http://camerasecuritysystemsforhome.com/for_home.php
2.) Integrated Media Systems: http://www.imsva.com/lighting-security.php
3.) CCTV Camera Pros: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Virgin...tion-s/231.htm

I don't think ADT does this for residential, it's only commerical I believe.

Thanks!

Being in construction, I got two quotes to supply and install from my prefered subs that do my work. Starting price for 4 cameras, non-panning, wa $5,000. I started researching the systems available boxed for the DIY-er. Came back around every time to the Lorics system that can do 4, 6, 8 + cameras. Bought the complete 4 camera set for $500. Bought a stand-alone monitor for $100 from Micro Center, and bought my HDMI cable from Cablesforless.com for $150. Install took about 6 hours on my own time. All entry points and driveway are now covered by motion activated cameras. Now I can see every camera view from anywhere in the world for under $1,000. It is a cctv system with infrared and color. The only thing I would have done differently is more cameras for this price.

Right on that's a cool idea. With the tech on these things I can't believe that someone would honestly quote $5000 for something like that. You can get wireless web cams for cheap and hunt down some control software that's close to free.

I have a 16 channel DVR with 15 cameras now I think. It is like anything in the world price wise. You can probably do a 4 camera system for $1000 or less. But you get what you pay for. Ive had setup for 5-6 yrs now and Ive allready burned thru 1 DVR head unit and 6 cameras. I would recommend at least a trigabit HD for motion activated continuous recording, you want it IP addressable to view online, DVR writer and/or flash drive to download video segments as needed, a good power supply with surge protection for the entire setup. The biggest dollar difference on these setups are the cameras themselves. You can get cheap cameras for $100-$200 that may work OK. But if you want any serious quality, GOOD nightvision with a decent lit field of view, good enough quality to make out a face and not simply a body, and decent quality to last more than 6 months without burning up....you will probably spend at least $500/camera and it can go way up. I mix and match camera qualities for what I need. i.e. looking down driveway has a good long distance camera that can decipher license plates, camera at front door is short range high quality to see peoples faces, back yard camera sets on motion but is lesser quality due to area....etc. And cameras on Lambo are hi quality night vision w/ good motion, alarms and extra illuminators so it turns pitch black into bright day.

Yes, to what he says. The Lorics has all these features as well. I just ordered up an 8t network shareplace for movies and security backup. Mine came with 500gb storage. I review and dump monthly. The cameras work just fine for my needs. It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend.

The DIY factor will play a huge part in this as well. When they bill you $150+/hr for technicians, you do the math. A service call starts at $100 to just pull into your driveway.

Berk - stop by my place if you want to check out my system. I had surv secure come and upgrade my 4 cams last summer for better res and it's awesome. Our circular drive, garages, backyard and pool area are currently covered, but will be adding 2 cams for addnl views (I had shadow give me an estimate as well). DVR holds ~30 days vid based on res. Set your sensitivity as desired and it will timestamp all motion triggered events. Viewable by Internet or droid/iPhone. Everything is hardwired and I've got two feeds - one to kitchen LCD and another to MBR LCD (it was on a 50" plasma and looked sick!). got two cams for the kiddies rooms with vid+voice.

Like others say it's all in how much you want to spend. If you want you can have my old cams and housings to "look" like you have a set up...lol
