2014 Fair Lakes, VA C & C (Kohl's) Thread

All in all, a pretty good turnout, but it was smaller than recently, probably because of the overcast. It never rained, and we had a great time.
Eric Z came by with his Moal Zephyr, a custom-built rod on a '34 Ford frame, with a modern Buick V8. Here's a link to this car, on Moal's website -

I talked to a couple of Jaguar-owning friends at Katie's on Saturday, and we decided to see how many Jags we could bring out to Sunday's Fair Lakes gathering. As it turns out, putting the word out to my Jaguar email list, and posting on a Jag website, with less than 24 hours advance notice, we had at least 12 Jaguars turn out.

Although the morning was overcast, it never rained, so it stayed reasonably cool for this first Sunday in August. I really liked the Alfetta Sprint Veloce. The Smart with the SLR nose and gullwing doors belongs to John, a friend of mine. He's having fun with it.

A great turnout, as you would expect on a good-weather holiday weekend. I met Rich (user Telum), and saw his AM Vantage.
A lot of police activity on the lot, but it was off to the side, and involved somebody that was parked on the Kohl's lot long before anybody got there for C & C. Whatever it was, it involved several police vehicles, and the guy was cuffed, his car was flat-bedded, and his dog was taken away. We're hoping that a visible police presence can discourage the couple of people who can't seem to resist infantile demonstrations of speed. (The rest of us enjoy meeting here every week, and don't appreciate the kind of attention that behavior garners.) If we all act more-or-less like adults, we can continue to enjoy this venue.

My buddy, Jay, warned me about the police on my way in. I heard from someone else that someone was showing off their two-step launch control (which will definitely draw the police!) and that's why they were around. But that's just what I heard and I'm not sure exactly what happened.
I did see one guy start up his car to rev it up, and another buddy of mine told him to kill the car, and the guy politely did so - no attitudes from anyone at all, and a nice demonstration of the maturity of the C&C groups.
Oddly enough, I didn't notice a single police car the whole morning. I don't mind them being there. We're not there to show off or race or anything like that, and their presence keeps the troublemakers away. As long as they don't start bugging us, of course
