I went to Ubuntu again last night (and going tomorrow for lunch) - it's the real deal. In fact, I'm naming it one of the top 10 (if not 5) restaurants in the Bay Area.

MTK, how was Meadowood? For reference, compare it to French Laundry since you're lucky enough to eat at both back to back...

I'm surprised that no one has yet mentioned Evvia in Palo Alto. Excellent food (lots of Greek fare), very good service and atmosphere, and always hopping. The sea bass is particularly good. They have a sister restaurant in San Francisco called Kokkari, but I prefer Evvia. The food, ambiance and service at Kokkari all seem to fall slightly short of Evvia -- IMHO -- due to Kokkari's much larger size.

I gotta say, I'd heard great things about Evvia for years - finally went and I was underwhelmed. The atmosphere is nice, but the food was just average. Maybe it was a bad night...

Has anyone ever been to Chez TJ in Mountain View? I just read in Gentry mag that it got its second Michelin star recently.

my friend went to Chez TJ after the promotion and she assures me the issuance of their 2nd Michelin star is far too generous. i may still try it but i've pushed it back on the to do list.

MTK - do Ubuntu for lunch. my lunch today was spectacular. just don't order the pizzas - order anything else. the food is too seasonal and the dishes will probably change but i'd suggest sharing these 4 plates if available:
- cauliflower 3 ways
- broccoli w/ pine nut pudding
- beet & pear salad
- bbq brussel sprouts w/ anson mills grits
