Driving advice
No Jody- I don't have enough time to take up one more competitive thing. I free ski 4-5 times a week during the season.
thanks mark!

I can't legally post pics of my favorite hobby. Thanks dj for posting up my 4th love.

No not racing next season across the country. Too many days away from my Boy. I will be possibly racing local one of the cars. I haven't really put that car up for sale too much. I might throw it on rennlist next month but haven't thought too much about it. Plan on spending a little more time around here with BBQ's etc.
BG, et al,
The Lotus Exige is not very good as a DD. it can be done, but many would tire of it soon enough.
Raw, is an understatement. Spartan is more apt.
The car is great on the track and fun to drive in all fair weather conditions. Some find that the car has understeer, I don't see that but much of under/over steer is the driver. The car is very easy on the pads and rotors. great on Gas (9 on the track, 30 on the hwy) And it turns great lap times. 1:35 at PIR and 1:55 at Spokane.
Those times are with 190 crank HP.
drivers being equal, if I had to put the Exige in a Porsche line up, I'd place it between the Carrera S (C4S) and th Turbo. It's purpose is closer to the GT3 of course, but the performance is just not at that level. On the track, I point by Turbo's and GT3s without exception. I have never pointed by an S or C4S. But I probably haven't met the right driver.
BG if you want a ride someday, just ask. The car is put to bed for the winter, though.
See you,
Trevor

trevor,
thank you for the info. i know EVERYONE is steering me away from the lotus as my DD. i guess once i've sat in one, i'll understand why. but, for now, every time i see one, i am so intrigued by it!
i have to ask myself, how many do i actually EVER see driving on the road? i think i can count on one hand. i see them on the track all of the time. so, that being said, i should know the answer.
i should probably be realistic and count on getting the 987 S at the next DD. Not that there is anything wrong with that! lol! but, just thought as far as price comps go....i was considering the lotus.
as far as an offer to ride in it, sure! i'd love the opportunity!
thank you again!

I'm a little skeptical about you having to point any of the drivers I have ever seen at PIR by in Turbos or GT3's running 1:35's because I get the nod running those times in my little 250hp 3000lb RS America. I've found most guys running their Babies on the track don't like to go below 1:40.
Good luck btw on that fourth car with the wife. My experience with this is buy it and don't give a crap what she thinks.

If you consistently run 1:35 at Pacific w/ your Exige you need to only point by race cars. Tim who has a very fast black GT2, runs around 1:36. My best time w/ my GT2 is 1:37s and that's hauling *** at 160mph on the straight away. So again no need to automatically point by GT3s or Turbos unless on the straight away.
Mark's right most high end street cars such as F430,CGT,FGT etc.,etc...barely runs below 1:40s .

okay guys, help me out here. since i've not yet done a day at PR, or any track for that matter, what exactly does it mean when you say "point by" ?
i've only done autoX, so the term is foreign to me. thank goodness for you guys here, so i get an early education before i actually go to the track. =) i have much to learn.

Point-by: A big deal on the track is being aware of whats going on around you. A big part of that is watching your mirrors. When you see a car coming up in your mirrors and the conditions are safe to pass, you stick your hand out the window and literaly point the car by on the side that you want them to pass. You keep your hand out pointing, until you no longer want them to pass.
Having said that, some places confine passing to a couple of zones, and restrict passsing to one side. Proformance does this. It keeps it very safe. Some places allow you to use your blinker instead of a point by. Some don't require a point by. The rules are set in the drivers meeting at the beginning of the day and are largely a factor of the level of experience in the group. When I run with the NW Lotus Club, most of them have a bunch of racing experience. So the Advanced groups have very relaxed rules while the intermediate group (there is no beginner group) just requires a point by, any where on the track.
