Job wanted
I just thought that I'd send a note out to all of you (many of which are friends of mine) to let you know that I'm looking for work. If you come across something, I'd love the tip!
Here's the basics:
When: I can start as early as July 1st.
What: Private Wealth Adviser position in the Seattle area with a national sized firm.
Education: MBA from the Foster School of Business, concentration in Finance. I have studied at the Swiss Banking Institute in Zürich, Switzerland. My undergraduate studies were at the United States Military Academy at West Point where I was the class president.
Experience: 12 years in the military (1995-2007), an internship at Russell Investments (2007), and an internship at Goldman Sachs in the Private Wealth Advisory area (2008).
Now, if you don't have a connection to a position like that, don't fret. I'm totally willing to accept a position as a professional racing driver. I'm actually not too bad of a shoe.
Thanks for getting the word out everyone. If I can return the favor sometime, don't hesitate to ask.
Warm regards,
Trevor (PM for more contact info should you need it)

Trevor,
Best wishes in finding something. I wish I could help you out in some way, but I'm not so sure the OB/GYN field will work for you? Hehe! Wherever you work, they'll be lucky to have a great guy like you! If I do happen to hear of anything though, I'll keep in touch!

Trevor, your credenitals are very impressive. I've watched you go through your studies over the years now and am always so amazed at what you are accomplishing. It's a very tough market right now, but I am sure you will land something really great. I'll ask around and see if I can come up with some leads for you - I have been part of the Seattle are business community for 30+ years and know many people.
Thanks for the support everyone!
Just as an update, I have a meeting with Smith Barney downtown on Friday (a week from today). I'll put my best foot forward. Your right, though times for sure.
As an anicdote, I'd guess that my MBA class is less than 40% employed at this point. Regardless, spirits are high. Personally, I am fortunate to have a wonderful wife (whom many of you have met) and a decent cushion built up so I can afford to search for the right opportunity, rather than the first opportunity.
Living the dream,
Trevor

No CFA on my resume. The CFA is a great designation (i've sat for the level I exam) but it isn't completely applicable to what I want to do personally. A Chartered Financial Analyst is much more into analyzing and selecting individual stocks and bonds. I covered most of that stuff at the Swiss Banking Insitute in far more detail than I'd ever want to put myself through again.
I'd rather let the pros do that stuff and I want to be more on the bigger picture stuff. Tax Planning, Trusts, Estate Planning, Asset Allocation, Generational Wealth Transfer, etc. The CFP would be more in line. I've given some thought to that, taking the CFP, but I won't look to do that until I am through all of my series exams.
Thanks though, very good question.

Trevor, I sent your brief resume to my CFP. I know it is not exactly what your looking for, but hey, any port in a storm. I asked him, if he or anyone he knows would be interested in someone with your credentials. If I get a bite I'll let you know.
Update
Thanks Larry I appreciate that.
Just to update everyone, as those of you at lunch Tuesday already know, I've been hitting the interview circuit and looking for the right opportunity. One of the firms I have looked at recently seems like exactly the type of place I want be associated with.
I was in the office today for a little bit and was able to get a bunch of my questions answered. I liked what I saw and I liked the answers I received. I have some friends that have worked there and some friends that have competed in the market place with them and they all give the group high marks. So far my impression is that they have a stellar reputation here in Seattle and that is important to me.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know what I'm up to and that things are moving forward. I'll be meeting with them again soon and we'll see where things go.
Oh, the thing I liked the most is the focus on the client and the freedom they give advisers to meet that. Personally, I have a problem with the business model in some firms, so my first cut is how they run their business.
Anyway, I'll let you all know how things develop. Officially they tell me, "there is no position available but we are always happy to talk to someone with your qualifications." They asked me to come back for the next step, so we'll see. Wish me luck.
Best,
Trevor
