Reaching out to anyone with hands on experience on the Jaguar F-Type.
I am looking for another toy and considering the Audi R8 or the Jag F-type. I've been able to get a very good look at the Rs, but little info about the F-Type. If you have one or know someone who has one - what is the good, bad, ugly? All input is appreciated.
Specifically I'd like to know:
1. How is the comfort fit for tall? I am 6' 5" but under 200 lbs, so just headroom/leg room is more the question?
2. I have a pretty good sense of the 5.0L V8, but what about the V6SC in the F-Type? Good/bad/comments? I have the V6 in our F-Pace and like it there.
3. I think there is an AWD version...yes or no on that option?
4. I know depreciation hits Jag with a sledge hammer, how about any systemic mechanical/electrical issues? What consistently fails?
I am looking at an F Type as well and specifically the R model. I see you are in AZ as well. I just looked at one at Luxury Motorsports. It was a 2015 R model with 24k. I love the style of the car and the color combo which was white with red interior but either Jaguar has horrible quality or this was beat to hell. The Jaguar logo on the door handles was worn off, the Jaguar logo on the front fender vents was rubbed off, the start/stop button was entirely worn off and other interior pieces were heavily worn for only 24k. I am trying to find out myself if that is common or this was just beat to death but still don't see the excessive wear on such a low mileage. I have also been doing a bit of research and it appears they are not overly reliable still. I am still doing my research and the car is still on top of my list but at this point only from a private seller and with a warranty. Let me know what you find out.
On a side note the lady at this dealer told me that a guy over 6' fit just fine in the car. They are very small but seem to have plenty of leg room just zero carrying capacity.
Thanks for the reply. A lot has happened since I started this thread. I've gone full circle and have ordered a 2021 Corvette. I have a long wait and hope it's worth it. Estimated deliver late spring, early summer.
I was in the Scottsdale Jaguar dealership this last week, in fact, with our F-Pace. We had a check engine light (P0173) Lean fuel trim on cold start bank 2. They had the car two days and decided to do nothing just delete the code (I could have done that in my garage). Service writer tried to BS me, said they're seeing this code on other cars and they think there is some bad gas in the area. He kinda forgot I'm a tuner and know better than that. I'm light hearted about it though. I bet him $10 it'll be back on in a couple weeks. Also told him I thought about an F-Type, but.......
I've not tried a fit in the F-Type, but would have had I kept pursuing it.
All the best to you on the hunt, and hope you keep this thread going as you progress. I'll help out if I can.
Thought I'd throw in another post. If you're shopping pre-owned F-Types, I just saw 3 at Certified Benz Beemer. They're in Scottsdale. There is a really good sales guy there Alexander Smith.
I bought 3 cars from those people; Audi, BMW and my last Porsche 911s. The Porsche had a power steering leak when I bought it and my fault for not taking the car to a true Porsche dealer for an inspection but they told me they have a certified Porsche mechanic on site and they went through the car. I wasn't happy since it ran me about $1800 but would still consider buying another car there since my overall experience was positive. The 3 F Types they have now are all 6 bangers. I would only buy an R model. I keep checking around the area but used car prices (despite Jag's massive depreciation) are all going up. It will be a few months before they drop down in price. And I would love a new Vette but out of my budget for now. I just hope the streets don't get flooded with them and take away from their appeal. They are an insane value and truly love the new design. I had my first C4 in my early 20's and 5 C5's over a few year period.

Hi Steve:
I was in there recently and saw the 2017 white one ($40K I think). It was a v6, but I haven't really seen the other two. I am curious, in your previous post you commented about the inferior quality or possibly poor care with the one at Luxury. Did you happen to notice those same details with the ones at B&B? Poor Jaguar Quality? or Poor upkeep?
Also curious which Audi did you buy? My alter ego car to the C8 above is an R8. B&B had an 09 but I wouldn't go back into those years BC of the cracking frame issues which, rumor has it, was corrected in either 2010 or 11.
On the Vette, the C8 would be my 4th (59, 81, 09). Crazy what has happened to the C8 launch, a total belly flop. The GM production numbers for 2021 aren't out yet. I am on a waitlist along with hundreds of others at just one dealership. If/when the allocations come out, supposed to be October, and if I don't make a 2021, or have to wait 12 months or more, I will bail on it and revert to shopping an R8.
The Audi was just an A4 for my daily driver. I hated that car with a passion. It had the variable transmission which had a lag whenever you took off and that was on top of the turbo lag-horrible. I was looking/considering an R8 as a toy car as well but prices are still a bit more than I wanted to pay and have read about some very high maintenance.
I bought a 2016 F Type R with very low miles. I never looked at the ones at B&B. The one at Luxury was just beat and "appeared" to be owned by a kid due the wrap and things done to the car. I was dead set on white but my cousin is a sales manager at a Land Rover/Jag dealer in Chicago and sent me photos of the car I bought and it is in Storm Gray. Love the car so far but it is a Jag and assume it will have some issues so I bought an extended warranty.
The C8 looks amazing and performance untouchable for the money. I have owned 6 Vettes; 1C4 and 5 C5's. Lost interest in them after that until the release of the C8.
I ordered a 2021 C8 in Sept. I made it less than 5 weeks, cancelled my order and started shopping Aston Martin Vantages and R8s. While doing so, I accidentally ran across a Mercedes Benz that I frankly didn't know existed, the AMG GT. After I got up to speed on them I shopped them actively and purchased a 2017 AMG GT, 19K miles and factory certified which added another 12 months on the factory warranty. 3 months into this car and I am completely blown away by it. It MSRPs in the same ballpark as the AM Vantage and the R8 4.2, and about double the C8 MSRP. I've owned a few MBs back in the 80s and 90s, thought I was done with them, but this car is very different than the stereotypical MB. One of my likes on this car - I have never seen another GT on the roads...even in Scottsdale. I am already seeing dozens of C8s. I know there are a couple GTs in the area as I saw them at SD Cars and Coffee in NOV., but not on the streets.
On the C8, the long wait along with the myriad issues (kinda expected on a first model in the series) coming up with owners of the 2020 MY did me in on it. I still might reenter in future MYs but I want to see how things shake out.
Sounds like you got a very nice car! Hope you post some pics of it.
That MB is beautiful. And I agree on the C8's and one of the reasons I disliked the Vettes after owning the C5's. The C7's were everywhere. They perform great and are a great bang for the buck but seeing them everywhere loses its appeal to me. I wanted another 911, R8, Jag F Type R or Lotus Evora S. I have seen minimal F Types around the valley.
Can anyone respond to the OP questions, please? I’m starting to look at an F-type and be interested in the responses to question 2, 3, and 4.
Thanks!
I have the R version so the V8 with 550hp. They do make an AWD in the R model starting in 2016. I believe that is all you can get from 2016 and newer in the V8 model. The rear wheel drive of 2015 gets tore up with the torque and prone to differential leaks but then again so are the AWD models. Mine was leaking and fixed under warranty. The coolant lines were apparently updated/upgraded in 2017 due to some failure in previous years. These cars appear to have just the normal issues that any other mfg endures. There is nothing really major that needs to be looked out for and throughout its production they have made some mild changes in certain years but nothing drastic. For example also in 2017 they made a slight change to the infotainment system. Circling back to your V6 question I am not sure they make an AWD in the 6 banger.
