PCM control of I pod
PCM control of I pod
Yesterday I took delivery of a '14 Panamera S. I handed over my '10 Panamera S. Pics to follow. I have synced my I pod with the PCM. My previous car had a plug to interface with the I pod and charge it too. Now, using the blue tooth I don't get the music selection/playlists on the screen and must control the music through the I pod controls. Despite the Bluetooth working well, this is a drastic step backwards, IMO. It is very distracting to look down at the I pod (which must remain in the central console to keep it charged) and reduces the streamlined operation to control the media through the touch screen and the steering wheel. Does anybody have any insight?
You get better sound by plugging in your iPod using an Apple cord. Blue tooth sound is highly compressed, just do a comparison, you will find the USB connection better sounding. You also get album art display when using the USB or Jukebox.
BT profiles don't support the same functionality as the iPod interface. The most functionality you would get would be AVRCP 1.4 or 1.5, which only gives the most basic type of control at all.

I've so far found Bluetooth useful for only podcasts or when I'm in a car other than my own.

I only use BT for listening to overseas radio stations from my iPhone. I always get a laugh when some Porsche owner pays thousands of dollars to upgrade to Burmester system and uses only BT to listen to music. This is equivalent to investing thousands of dollars on a home sound system and only use it to listen to radio. No audiophile would use BT for music listening. A better wireless format is Apple Air Play which involves sending unaltered music files through WiFi. In fact, many of the better music docks now offer Air Play.
I plugged the I pod in via an Apple/USB cable and it is not recognized as the icon doesn't show up on the screen. IMO, it is a step backwards not being able to control the I pod with the infotainment system. Yeah, Bluetooth is cool technology but needing to look down to control the music is just barbaric. I suppose I'll take the time to load my music into the jukebox.

When you plug in an i-device(iPod, iPhone or iPad), within a few seconds, the SOURCE selection should show IPOD. Playlists and song selection are available on the PCM main screen, and once you are within a playlist, song selection is also available from the round screen in front of the driver by using the small scroll wheel on the steering wheel.
