I'm going to redo the bushings in my car this spring, so I'm making some polyurethane replacements,
I have a couple of upper arms from a friends suspension work where he decided to just replace the upper arms with new updated pieces.
First thing, you'll need to cut the rubber of the inside of the bushing, the upper bushings are hollow for about half the length, cut from the inside of the arm, the outside s thick and has lots of metal
Both sides push out from the inside of the arm.
not much needed, I'm using a 1.5" aluminum tube O/D (1.3" I/D) capped with a piece of 1.5" aluminum round rod that was machined down a bit to slip onto the end.
and a bearing puller
Getting started can be a bit tricky as the bushing cover a very large part of the arm, you can just get the fingers on it, helps to hold it closed with one hand while you get it started.
Couple of cranks with a wrench and it's out,
3D printed some clamps to hold the poly so it isn't too distorted when in my vice, I then cut the guide hole with an end mill and finally then cut some grease grooves in it
As another option I have received/ordered a couple of Siberian Bushings recommended by Alex, but at this point I'm far from having the equipment necessary to make the swap....
This is the company's page on the part. Cheapest price so far from my research is from Amazon. (That's where I ordered a pair). The other side was done with an OE arm at the shop I took it to when they repaired our strut.
I have a set of PowerFlex bushings for another car, and albeit a lot more expensive, I do believe they came with a grease packet to use. What grease do you guys recommend for these polyurethane bushings? The Siberian ones did not include it as far as I could tell without opening the plastic packaging.
the price of the Siberians is hard to beat, I'm just not a fan of the design - which is just like the OEM bushings but poly. (unsupported on one side) and they only make them for the upper arms.
