So was going to do an oil change on our 2012 P4. Got under and removed the covers, and found a leak. Noticed at some point the pan was dented a bit.
Got it all sorted and pan is back to its birth shape, but my local parts shops say I don't need a gasket (the computer doesn't list one), and to just use Grey RTV gasket maker.
I know there is a part number, but it comes up as the entire pan. Can I just use the grey rtv as suggested? I've done the oil pan on our 911 C4 and used the RTV gasket stuff with no issues. Just want to verify.
You do have an "O-ring" gasket. Porsche probably requires a new o-ring every time the pan is dropped, simply because o-rings do tend to compress.
My experience with other makes has been to re-use o-rings with a "smear" of rtv. I remove the o-ring and do a very light smear over the entire o-ring. I do the same with the flat bonding surface outside of the o-ring.
Hey Kirkman. I have a new o-ring for the oil plug, but nothing for the pan itself. Was hoping to add RTV to the little gasket there in the channel in the pic and bolt it up!
