Question New fixed wing - error codes

Hi everyone, I finally got my GT3 replica wing on my C4! It replaced the entire rear decklid. It's from Precision Porsche - Tony Ugas really did a great job hooking me up. The body shop said it's a piece of fine work, with no fitment issues encountered, they only had to do regular surface prep work to set up for painting. (Well they did fill the "3.8" - Mark Ducati, thanks for that thread!)

Now I have an issue - I got a spoiler malfunction (when I top 75) because the motor for the spoiler is obviously gone, and I get a raised brakelight malfunction (because that's gone too). Now I figured this would be a straight forward code fix at the dealer, but when I called my local dealer, the SA told me that the techs didn't know what to do and that they would have to "figure it out!" I couldn't believe it. What the heck do they do when someone buys an OEM Aerokit for their 997 and a fixed wing gets swapped out for the standard decklid. Are they SERIOUS that they don't know what to do to clear the error codes?!

Does anyone know if the Durametric has the capability to disable these alerts? Or has anyone gotten the aerokit / wing after the original purchase of the car and gotten this issue addressed?

Thanks in advance. Oh, and here's a pic (of course!)

Not familiar with the Durametric capabilities, but it's definitely fixable with a PIWIS at the dealer.

From the Aerokit Installation Instructions TSB 1/05 6658:

Connect PIWIS tester and switch on ignition.
Select vehicle and Rear control unit.
Select Coding, then Spoiler and code fixed spoiler.

I see you're in Portland. Is Sunset Porsche near by? I believe they can take care of that w/o problem.

Hey Scoper, I had the same issue as you after I installed my wing. Copy the directions above exactly as written. Take them to a Porsche dealer and talk to a service writer or manager. I tipped my guy $50 and it was handled in 5 minutes. The PIWIS is the only tool that is going to make this adjustment, the Durametric will not work. Setting this fixed spoiler code is not something the dealers do very often, thus the confusion you encountered when you called your local dealer.

If you show up with the precise directions written on a 3x5 card, you should have no problem getting this handled.....

Good luck!

Jay

I forgot to mention that Ron, make sure you swap out your harness for a fixed-wing harness. Hit up Suncoast and pick one up before you make your dealer trip with the PIWIS instructions.

Guys,
Thanks for the replies! Believe it or not I got the "the techs need to figure out what to do" line from the Sunset Porsche service department! I was going to call them an ask what on Earth do they do when they have an Aerokit install. Clearly, there's a TSB already.

Durametric 6.0B can change the ECU coding to eliminate the spoiler drive (select not installed.) Fault will have to be cleared, but the error will not return.

Whoa, sorry to hear about that. I stand corrected. The parts guy was quite knowledgeable, I guess that did not apply to the service dept.

So, I spoke with the SA at Sunset, provided the TSB info and after they looked it up, told me it should be a piece of cake. At least they know what to do now! I guess sometimes we hafta bring the info to them.

I have the same problem right now. My 3rd brake light won't work. They said the 3rd brake light is broken and need a new one. It will cost me $ 270.

Do you have the new wiring harness for the fixed wing? I assumed you already installed this when you had your GT3RS wing put on? The new wiring harness will allow your 3rd brake light to function. Costs much less than $270.

808c2s,

Thanks for the tip. I had actually called Suncoast a bit ago, and their HAR997 was what they recommended. I ended up talking to the parts guy at my local dealer (Sunset) and had them look up the TSB for installation of the 997.2 aerokit, and he told me that the part number for the harness for that was 997-612-670-71. Ordered it, installed it myself last night, and bingo! 3rd Brake Light works again! Strangely, the part only cost me $50 instead of the $120 Suncoast had it listed for. Maybe somehow different? Sure looks the same.

Scoper,

Glad you got it to work. Great price as well! I've also noticed that Sunset has great prices on various items compared to Suncoast at times.
