What shifter is this?
So I pulled my console off today to get painted and I took a look at my shifter and this is the part number on the base of it. So I'm assuming it's out of a 997? Anyone know which model?
So would there be any benefit to going to a 996 Short throw shifter?
If I were you, I would just update what you have to use metal bushings. The 997.2 GT3 shifter is arguably one of the best and by adding the metal bushings that is what you would have, and it would maybe be cheaper than buying a whole new unit.
Shifters are so subjective though, maybe best to try a few different ones in local cars.

It is the mod to add those metal bushings as I mentioned earlier in the thread. Basically makes it the same to the 997,2 GT3 shifter
Factory Porsche Motorsport 996Cup shifter + Cup cables + Cup selector lever = perfection.
Simple uncomplicated race proven set up that just plain works.
For a simple swap of just the shifter, the OEM 997SSK is very good albeit a little plasticky. For daily driver use it's a great choice and will not add any noise
