New to SD - how to find accommodation?
New to SD - how to find accommodation?
This may be an inappropriate thread topic but I thought I'd give it a try. I really need some help or advice from San Diego members.
I've never been to San Diego but will be working there(central CD) May-November this year. I have no clue how to find suitable accommodations? Can anyone help me out with some advice? I've looked on-line (e.g. Craig's list) but it's not much use if you don't know the city or neighborhoods. From my experience working in Denver, here are some things I'd be looking for:
- off street parking (of course!)
- safe and quiet neighborhood
- shared furnished house or something similar (no pets - allergies)
Me? I'm a mature quiet professional (non-smoking, non-drinking, non-drug using - in other words, pretty boring).
If you can help you can also PM me. Thanks!

If your going to be in the San Diego country, some nice quiet/safe places to live are La Jolla, Rancho Bernardo, Carlsbad, and Sorrento Valley.. Parking here is pretty abundant unless your going to be in and out of Downtown San Diego, and thats where it gets hectic and pricey.
Thanks

Try Little Italy, it's a small, very serene neighborhood by Downtown SD with a lot of luxury condos, studios, apartments, etc., most of which have private parking & reasonable pricing. There's many good Italian restaurants, art galleries, etc. at walking distance & it's also close to Seaport Village & right by a 5 freeway entrance. Lol, I sound like a realtor trying to sell you on this, but if I was coming from out of town into SD, I think I'd be looking for a place there.

there isnt too many bad places in SD .... maybe near the border
but overall, you should be fine ... there's many places with under complex parking ... or even a garage
just depends on your price range
check out craigslist ... also www.housingmaps.com

Thanks for the advice. Found a great place on Craig's list very close to my work. Now if only I could get some advice where to get my car tech inspected for a PCA event. Dieter's? Black Forest? Others?
Dieters, Black Forest, Mirage International....check out www.pcasdr.org there should be a list of Tech Stations....or you can get it done at the event. Of course if its an away event and you flunk....very inconvenient. I have used Black Forest and Mirage Int. Great shops, very knowledgable people.
Also check www.porscheownersclub.org They have lots of events in SoCal as does NASA.

As mschacht said, you can get it done at the event. But if you'd prefer to make sure everything is perfect ahead of time or simply would like a trusted indie on hand, I highly recommend the guy who did my clutch & RMS. He's factory trained & worked at Pioneer Porsche (a dealership here in SD which happens to be a Premier Porsche dealership & is pretty famous) for 10 years or something like that. He just started up his own shop & mainly works on a lot of race cars & what not. The guy is quick, has good service, great prices, & knows his stuff. PM me for his number if you need it.
