camera recommendation
Hey guys. I'm looking for a good in-car camera to mount on my newly installed harness bar for VIR next week. Anyone have experience with any brand and model in particular? I had a mounting bracket installed at Stable energies so the camera can be threaded(screwed) on. If you have any thoughts, email me at ohan_najarian@yahoo.com or PM me here.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'm sure you can find other sources and similar products.

I've been having alot of fun with my GoPro Hero.
Its small, light, and has decent video and audio. They have a wide version coming out this month. Comes with tons of attachments, and only requires a 2GB SD card, which nowadays are pretty cheap. I recommend picking up atleast 2 of them if your going to be doing more than 2 hours of driving, total. Also, pick up some good NiMH rechargeable batteries, AAA, for the best performance out of the camera.
I don't have any videos to post but check out the website, as they have alot of great info. Both standard and wide version can go pretty much anywhere, and they include a waterproof case that's pretty tough so it can be mounted almost anywhere outside the car.
I have both Wide (170° viewing angle) and Standard (54° viewing angle). They both work the same, however getting decent shots out of the standard can be tough; just depends on where you mount it.

btw, your car looks familar...you wouldn't happen to be in those GoPro adds I see in GRM?
i bought a gopro camera not long ago, but didn't really like it. it has nice features and fairly good quality vid for such a small camera, but i find the exposure sux. the only good place to mount it is on the front bumper or inside front windshield, because it doesn't compensate the interior/exterior lighting well. at least that's my experience

I have the same complaints about the GoPro. It really is a day-time or well lighted area camera.
They have a new version, the Wide, which is significantly better than the standard.
They are great for amateur HPDE, or anything outdoors that might see water and debris.

I bought a Aiptek Action HD - 1080p camera for $150. Yes, they are $150.
My problem with the GoPro I had was the battery life was just plain awful. The sound was also awful.
Here is a sample of my Aiptek in the car. I made two modifications to it. $35 add on wide angle adapter and $10 worth of parts from Radio Shack to soldier in an external mic jack so I could run a lapel mic to the trunk. HPDEs have to run with the windows down, so the only place I could get no wind noise and still pick up the exhaust sound was the trunk. Works pretty well.

Thanks for all your input guys! I ended up buying a Canon FS100. Very easy to use, basically turn on, set the speed, anti-shake and lighting sensitivity, and I got awesome videos the FIRST time out!
I thought ChaseCam reviewers rave about the quality of the camera/recorder but some decry the high buy-in cost, lack of built-in viewing screen and computer play-back issues related to the interlaced video being played on progressive monitors. I’m still trying to find a good in-car camera.
