Starter wired and muffler mounted. Fresh air intake next then fire in the hole!

Pic update

Here's a pic of the motor in the car. It fit's but there's not much room for anything else

Good oil pressure

I cracked open the cam oil feed lines and spun the motor over with the starter w/o fuel or spark in order to confirm oil pressure at the cam towers and all checked out good there, but I did not fire it up cuz it sprung a leak in the area of the oil cooler. Glad there was only 1 leak to chase down

Leak found!

The motor mounted thermostat failed and filled the motor mounted oil cooler with cold Joe Gibbs BR and popped it like a zit! I don't know how you guys feel about this cooler, but I think it's a weak link and plan to add a 3.6L/993 filter console there instead.

I will need an oil inlet adapter, so please show me some ideas

Here's an example of the Smart Racing Kit looks like:

So you're going to substitute the oil filter console for the stock oil cooler? Won't removing the oil cooler cause heat issues? [Porsche novice here, and not a 930 expert by any means]

Maybe, Maybe not

If you sit in stop and go traffic in FL in the summer sun then yes I think you'd need to add the cooler back on cuz it's prolly good for 30 degrees of cooling while sitting, but if you plan on tracking the car or running down the back roads then the cooler up is more in play and if coupled with a set of Elephant Racing's finned oil lines should do the job w/o the motor mounted cooler.

Porsche stopped using them on 3.6L air cooled cars and they didn't use them on their race cars that I know of. Ever wonder why?

However, if my theory proves wrong I'll just add a second cooler up front cuz I really like the idea of a 2nd filter there right before the brgs and since the motor mounted coolers are such a weak link I prolly wont ever run one again

Good point. Thanks for the clarification. I'm cataloging all of this information should I be lucky enough to find a 930T.

Saw that one. I'm in Overland Park, KS (suburban Kansas City) and although there are a lot of 930's out there, most are over 500 miles from here. I'm not quite ready to go the "sight-unseen" route, although many do. A reliable PPI from a local source and having the vehicle shipped is likely less expensive than traveling to the vehicle location for an actual inspection & test drive. I'm old school, I guess. I know of a really nice slant nose 930, but it's in Atlanta. [I still have to get the spouse on board as well - she likes the Mercedes roadster and wants me to keep it.]

So for the time being, I'll continue to experience the 930 vicariously through your thread.

Gutted thermostat

It's times like this that I wish I had smaller hands cuz getting to the thermostat on the backside of the motor isn't easy once the motor is back in the car

However, I did get it off and gutted it so I can run the 3.6 filter console setup. The internals were old and rusty so that's the reason for the thermo failure, but I wont have to worry about that anymore

Additionally, I've got all the parts ordered for the filter console setup that I can find and will fab up the rest, so initial firing party coming soon
