991 Turbo.... I Fear It May Be.... Boring?
Ok, I have my flame suit on here.
I bought at 2014 Turbo. Not an "S" but they are very similar cars. Some background, I have owned and driven some amazing machines.
I bought a 14 Turbo because I wanted the new body. Not crazy about every little change, but I loved the hips on the car. I traded my beloved 09 Turbo Manual. Now, this is not to compare those two cars, as I think the 14 is a way better car.
However, I feel that the car is boring. Almost dull? Sure, it is fast as hell. It handles great. Even makes good exhaust noise for a turbo on a stock system... That being said, the car is point and shoot. I feel that any person could drive this car very fast, and look very good while doing it. Yes, its great to be able to look like a pro everywhere I go with the car. It will turn when I say, stop how I ask, and run away from anything that try's to approach it. But at the end of the day, I am left wanting more...
Am I crazy ( Maybe ).... I actually enjoy driving my C4S more, and I have not even put the top down on it yet. Maybe as the season opens up, and I have the ability to drive it more, I will fall in love?? But as it sits, I think I'd rather have something else.
Does anyone else have similar feelings? Again, not slamming the car. Its a great machine. But it just seems to lack that soul...

Looking at your stable of options, there is no shortage of ways to express your inner raw automotive side. Then you have the TT.... sounds like the best of all worlds!!
Curious, what do you think it needs to regain "that soul"?

Hello Mike,
I have a 991turbo s and it is one of the best driving cars out there. It is a car that is king of the roads right now that can roam the kingdom daily without wearing the driver out, at the same time it can be very aggressive with the press of the sport or sport plus and pdcc buttons. The throttle response becomes razor sharp, the suspension becomes super stiff and the super fast gear changes, not to forget about that extra torque that I could really feel in sport of sport plus modes, or over boost when floored, the overrun sound from the exhaust that pops like machine gun fire. Haven't tried out the launch control in sport plus mode but then again I'm sure it will be neck breaking 10.6 secs 1/4 mile is not a boring car. 4 wheel drive steering that can weave in and out of traffic like no other cars I have driven. Active aero button to make it more stable at higher speeds or make the car looks more aggressive. It is such an badass piece of engineering what porsche have created.

Boring when it wants to be, sure, but that's the beauty of it, for me, as a year round DD. I don't want drama when I'm driving through bumper to bumper downtown traffic. I don't want drama when I'm driving through snow to get to work at 6AM in sub zero temps.
The fact that I can do those things in this car and then put it in sport+ and be within spitting distance of a GT3 on any track (and faster than them on a longer less technical circuit) is exactly what I want. No other car currently available, to my knowledge, can do those things. You've got other cars in your stable for that, my friend.

Of course, since opinions are like----- and everyone has one, there result is a large number of car models to choose from!!
Reminds me of the most recent episode of Top Gear in which they tested the Caterham Seven 620R w 310hp w/ 0-60 in 2.7 secs vs a Seven 160 w/ 80hp. James May and the Stig both thought the S160 was more fun. My personal opinion is that the manual-less 991 TT has fallen into the realm of the Nissan GT-R. If you want fun; outside of blitzkrieg fast timeslips... look elsewhere.

BTW your LP560-2 is absolutely epic!

Boring is the exact term I used to explain the Turbo to my uncle, who was considering a 991 TTS. He went from 599, Scuderia, 458 so, in comparison, its is quite boring. fast as hell? yes.
Boring is the reason that I had my 997.1 Turbo for 6 months and ditched it for a GT3 years ago.
Its an AWESOME car, but it lacks something.

Have the 991TTS for about a month.
I understand the sentiment about boring. I use it as a semi-DD as I have a large sedan (S8) when I need and a 997GT3 RS when i need lots of involvement.
991TTS is mega-composed. You have to drive 95 down a 45 mile country road to make it really feel "exciting". That isn't safe, I don't do it. I think this is going to be the conundrum for this car from here on out....they have figured out how to give it such crazy performance without it heading tail first into a tree that the true enthusiasts are going to be underwhelmed.
Not starting a fight -- just interested what are the Modern daily driver (so nothing crazy impractical) sports cars that people are finding non-boring?

Two years ago I test ran a gtr and was blown away with the absolute gut wrenching pull that that car had, but to me it was missing something, couldn't put my finger on it.....
And then I test rode and bought my ZR1, from a standstill it didn't pull as hard, likely a traction issue, but the feeling I had when I almost lost it with full tc on while entering the freeway was hard to describe, the sound alone would make hairs stand up on your neck. It was ear to ear grin from the moment I pushed the start button. This is what I believe is missing from the TT, it just doesn't sound the part. I'm thinking headers and x pipe may just cure that "boring" feeling.
A manual transmission? Maybe, but sound is vital.

I was in Atlanta and passed the dealership I bought my TTS at and just ahead of me by a few cars was a GT3, not sure of the year, probably 997 Gen. This thing was so obnoxiously loud, you could hear it over my booming Burmeister 40 yards away. Braaaaaaaaaaap, braaaaaaaap with each gear change. Way louder than any fart can equipped Ricer car I have heard as. Totally dominated all the sound on a busy 4 lane road, not in a good way either. Louder than any Harley I have heard as well. If that is what is missing in the 991 TT, then it can stay missing IMO.

Personally, I don't find the car boring at all, but this is such a subjective issue and each owner can do what they want.

The Gt3 lacks the plush comforts mostly desired for street use . The Turbo for that reason is the ultimate boulevard cruiser .
The turbo is more like a sledgehammer and the Gt3 is more like a scalpel where monstrous torque and straight line speed favor the Turbo and precision goes to the Gt3.
Ideally I feel the best setup is 3 cars rather than choosing one above another. A Turbo s --for those moments when HP calls , a Gt3 --when one really wants to experience the most raw 911, and a Boxster S -- the ultimate mid engine Porsche roadster .

All kidding aside, I can't wait to get my TTS.
