Fact is, GO Tune / Bolt on / Build that 720S just give Dave credit!!
I've never see ANY 720S run 8.54 @ 175 mph like Daves 991TTS. If there's one, let me know..
I think Dave's build is awesome, and i mean it . It's purpose built (1/4 1/2 mile events).
The 720 is a significantly different machine built for high speed. The 911's aero feels like a fridge compared to the 720. Fastest i have driven is 190. these cars feel VERY different above 150. HUGE difference between the 2. Mine IS tuned to 820 whp on pump so far. Running 1/4 miles has a LOT to do with hooking. Rolling at 60 or above, a VERY different story.
Any purpose prepared s*itbox can run mid 7s these days, probably even lower and dust ANY 911. That is not the point for these. These cars are different. On a racetrack, not strip, on a full day with 4 sessions of 30 min, the 720 vs modded 911 is no contest. Pump fuel only. modified cars not so much (been there done that). Keep in mind a had one brand new for 4.5 years, 35k miles and modified from day 1 by champion. Ultra reliable. I have been to Wannagofast. I have seen how bad things get with ALL modified makes (yes, porsche included). Just everybody keeps it a secret. NOBODY talks about the down time. there are no video's about it because they would be weeks long. It is VERY significant, depending on the mods, of course.
The 720 is just an exotic car and a superior platform to begin with, of course at a price. The 911 tts, less so. There is a reason why the 720 is much more expensive. I still have porsches. great cars. Drive a 720 and you'll immediately understand. Words can not convey the experience. The lesser mac's sucked to me. by comparison (yes, i drove them) the 911 is better.
Last note, new vs new, the 911 is a super car, just less so than the 720. The 911 looks like a great value to me comparing the 720, but no way equally good.
You and I against the world brother. Haha. If any these guys ever drive a Mclaren, they’ll understand why we defend the brand so vehemently... something very special about the drivers seat in a Mac.
1) Don't know if the McLaren had mods, as it was a random matchup at the starting line and I don't know the car or driver.
2) Yes, I decided to post this video since this is a Porsche vs. 720S thread. Would have been strange to post me racing a different car, don't you think?
3) I have no video of me racing the Huracans, because we never raced. They were not out when I was. I did line up against a modded GTR, but he then pulled off to the side for reasons unknown. I definitely would have lost to the 2000+whp Huracans. They would have walked me as much as I walked the 720S.
I appreciate your reply. First, you know I would never disrespect you, your car, or your build... it’s simple amazing... but I guess I was kinda surprised you of all people posted a video of you running off and leaving a 720S, as you have nothing to prove to anyone. Your car is one of the fastest TTS’s in the country.
I’d wager that 720 is bone stock by the way your car made it look like he hit the brakes. You would agree that 30 plus mph in a 1/2 mile is a HUUUUGE separation at the finish line, no?
This thread was started by someone I believe trying to start an argument between guys on a normally good natured forum... and he clearly succeeded. Notice he hasn’t been back? It was simply a question of anyone transitioning from a Porsche to a Mclaren, not who has the faster car. That’s why your post surprised me. Anyway, I truly hope I didn’t offend you because I have always respected your build as one of the best I’ve ever seen... but I still stand my ground on my defense of Mclaren. They’re the real deal regardless whether you, or anyone else likes them or not.
Lastly, I think we’re all competitive and to a degree, brand loyal... but I’m not so biased as to blindly say a particular car sucks having never set foot into one. I am not insinuating you did that, but this thread is LOADED with folks who have and frankly, it pisses me off!

Took the same route. Sold the stage 4 991.1 TTS 2 weeks ago. Just a bullet proof car in 4 years with just one issue. Got the 720S today. It is just a sexier car - hope I will have the same luck and have no issues in the next 4 years. Performance wise nothing else I can add. You are right on.

Congrats on the 720. Truly a great car. You picked a beautiful color as well. Looking forward to your further posts. I hope to do the same.
I will tell you what mod this mclaren has, the mod demanding DOUBLE the price of the turbo S, because some random engineers want you to pay for the allegedly coolness of the random car they promised the investors they will debut every year. I wonder if there is a mod to undo the 100K USD loss on this random cool door machine EVERY year you hold it.
8SECDD, you sure did sum up the thread with this video, and you don't need any explanation why you posted it here, its a perfect fit.
of course, excuses from mclaren fans, who think a few years old company who produce cars with cool doors can replace 70 years of refined machine, will began whining- "its modded" "you can mod a mustang" "you can mod an opel astra with a jet engine".
Facts are- being 2 times more expensive the 720S is already "modded", you want stock? bring it something its own price and the random machine with cool doors will never stand a chance.
