991 ES700 Shift Sector Half Mile Event Results

Hi guys. This weekend I took my daily driver to the Shift Sector half mile airstrip event. The car performed way beyond expectations, ripping off half mile best of 181.6 mph with a quarter mile of 147.4 mph and a 60-130 of 5.07 seconds.

This car is not significantly modified. In fact it looks 100% stock down to stock 300 tread ware tires. I have the ES700 bolt on package. The parts vary, but at the heart of it is a custom tune by Emre Levent of ES Motors. Emre was reviewing my logs at the event and sending new tunes. The car got faster and faster as the day progressed. That level of service is incredible particularly as it was 2 days before Emre's wedding at it was past midnight into the early morning hours his time.

My engine modifications are:

Champion 68mm VTGs
Champion Exhaust and Intercoolers
do88 plenum
Stock Y pipe tapped for meth injection
Stronger clamps to prevent boost leaks

Very little invested for incredible results. Oh and I drove to the event, raced and drove home the same day 564 miles and achieved 20mph lol.

Cheers.

Conditions were good. Traction is non existent to start so that was the limiting factor, however slope is nice at -0.8%. Temps were cool at around 70 F and in the afternoon we got a strong 10mph side wind from the North blowing tumbleweeds across the track. Density altitude dropped as a result. Maybe 1,000 feet when it's usually 2,500 feet.

Killed it, Adam!

I'm almost convinced the Y-Pipe and Plenum isnt neccesary on VTG cars due to the insane amount of mid range torque they produce and tuners are actually trying their best to limit mid range torque to preserve the clutch. Have you ever thought about going with bigger conventional turbos?

That's very perceptive you found my secret haha. No jk I have thought about the very point you bring up however never tested. My main goal is just keep the mods and investment dollars to a minimum. Something that anyone with a 991 and some pocket change can do. Nothing special with my setup other than the tune.

Crazy mph for the mods!! More and more this platform is being explored, the more this 991 platform is making sense to move on from my 997, even though I have Alpha’s coming.

What fuel you running?

meth and MS109?

If MS109 how much less mph would you run on 93pump and meth or even E30 and meth?

How I wish these cars could run E85, so your not paying a small mortgage a month to run that power all the time (if it is Ms109).

You said Emre was doing live tunes as you were there and it kept getting faster and faster, so is that your new tune your keeping in your car to drive daily or that was just a special tune specifically for the 1/2mile?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am on a cross roads with putting on Alpha’s on a car I barely drive (ie 2800km this year ) or sell both my RS7 and 997 (sad love this thing) and pick up a 991.1/991.2 as a daily, but needs to be faster then a 997 with Alpha’s from a roll on E85.

Your set up is crazy simple and is the way I like to mod my cars as it keep the essence of the vehicle intact, but EVERY mod serves a purpose.....

Again a BIG congrats!

Hey Bobby great to hear from you....it's been a while....hope all is well.

I am so pleased with this car. The low $ invested and incredible performance is really unreal.

So just before Shift Sector, I did some test runs on my daily setup which is pump 91 plus meth. I didn't run my daily tune in the half mile, but I did get 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile numbers. 1/8 was 114.07 and 1/4 mile 144.67. 60-130 was 5.4.

When I raced at Shift Sector, I was on a tune for ms109 and meth. And yes I started with my race tune from the prior airstrip testing when my car's meth system wasn't 100%, so I knew it would do quite a bit better. I started at 174 mph and sent logs. Then 177 mph and sent more logs. Then multiple 181 mph runs to end the day. Funny thing is that for the 181.X mph runs, there is still no timing correction and fuel trims show plenty of fuel so Emre can turn it up more!

So with more fine tuning, 60-130 in high 4's and close to 150 quarter mile trap is possible on the ms109 race tune.

For pump 91, 60-130 in 5.4 seconds and 144 mph 1/4 mile not too shabby for everyday daily driving.

Solid numbers on 91! I wonder what if any the difference would be between 93 octane and your set up.

Do you know by chance the difference in performance with a 991.2 Turbo S set up in performance, without and with upgraded turbos’s, as I know the 991.2 S has larger turbos and a beefier fuel system.

again keep it up!

Hi Bobby, I doubt there is much difference in results between pump 91 and pump 93 on a setup like mine because I'm running methanol which significantly increases effective octane.

There isn't really a comparison to a 991.2 on stock turbos. They would need the same 68's to keep up. Their fuel system is better so definitely some advantages but they aren't going any faster than a 991.1 on stock motor/pdk because those are the limitations.
