Day 2 with 991-S and it left me stranded!
I just took delivery of my brand new 2012 991S after waiting for about 5 months. I was elated! Everything was perfect and the car was working perfectly fine. I was not revving over 4000 rpm's as the manual states for the break-in period. I took it home and that was that.
In all the excitement of picking up the car, I left a set of house keys at the dealer and had to go pick them up. I picked up my buddy the following day and as I went to get my keys at the dealer. My friend and I had been debating as to when the Automatic Off activates itself in the car. Ten minutes after I left the dealer I come to a stop at a stop light and the car shuts off. We were like, "Sweet, the automatic off worked!". So I accelerated to start the car again, only it wouldn't start. I turned the car completely off and back on, it started, stuttered, and then shut back off. I tried this a few more times before I called Porsche Roadside to pick the car up and bring it back to my dealer.
The dealer took it in and they said that it did stutter for them when they started it, they accelerated it and it cleared up. Now its running fine supposedly. They recommended it stay until Monday so they can do some road tests with the computer hooked up to see if anything comes up.
Up to this point no one knows what the hell it was. Any takers?

Sorry to hear of the circumstances!
Yep that really sucks....
There's one person here who had his tranny fail on one of the first 991 to be delivered in North America... it had to be replaced.
So far you're the 2nd person who's had a problem.
Doesn't sound like the same thing though.
Let us know how it works out and good luck!
Cheers!
Hey ChuckJ,
I did and it had the same results. Basically I would start the car, it would start up, stutter a bit, and shut off. It kind of felt like it needed fuel or it wasn't firing on all cylinders. Maybe something was clogged in the engine and it was cleared out when the techs started it and revved it? I really don't know I just want my car back!!!!!
The dealer was very attentive and they actually pulled a car from the showroom to give me until Monday. They gave me a Panamera S Hybrid to drive until tomorrow. This thing is ugly as can be.

The default is auto-start/stop on. It is disabled by getting in to any sport mode, or by pressing a separate button to deactivate it. So you have to remember to switch it off, or go in to any sport mode.
I hope they take this seriously and find what is wrong with your car. Their credibility is at stake. If this was down the road, they would be tempted to say: "can not duplicate". That is not a good answer any time, but it's a particularly bad answer now. They got the transmission that went bad and presumably can diagnose what went wrong and take appropriate steps to ensure it never happens again. They need to have the same capability now so they must treat this with the thoroughness of an aviation accident (in aviation, if an aircraft had an in-flight engine shutdown it wouldn't fly again until the reason was found and corrected). It won't be a happy day for anyone if this happens again to you - or anyone else.

I also used to work in aviation and the safety standards are the most stringent. This is my second 911 and I loved my last one (2012 911 Black Edition, Manual). It was amazing and I never had a problem.
I am surprised the default is "on". I have a 2012 Cayenne S. The 2011's had the auto-start/stop on by default, but Porsche switched it to off for the 2012's, I assume after much complaining.
Wishing you the best
I'm the guy who's 991 died 2 miles for the dealership on the night of delivery. Turned out to be a transmission failure. They fixed it completely and car is running great for past 1500 miles. Stay strong, they will fix it. Sorry everything is not perfect but it will get there.
