Avis rents Porsche's in Germany. I think they can do rental from various locations. You might have to email them as I'm not sure they show up on their site.
I picked mine up in Stuttgart both times. If you pick up at Airport or Train station they often charge a 20% premium.
Rate is about Euro 200 per day. Includes 200km (not very much) per day. Excess km are Euro 1 per km. Insurance is Euro 1,500 deductible but you might be able to cover that off with extra insurance from your insurance company in the US.
in 2012 I rented a 991 Cab in May and a 991S coupe in September.

Yes, these are great cars to attack the Autobahn. In may got to 264k (aporox 164mph) with the top down in a 991 Cab. In September, reached 295k (approx 183 mph) in a 991S Coupe. We had so much fun my wife looked at me and said why don't I get a 991 for a daily driver! Like a good husband I went along with it and the first day home, before noon, had 991S Cab on order!

I'll say. Four years ago we were looking for a replacement "TOY" for my 1982 SC and it had to have power steering and some form of Tiptronic as due to broken wrists she suffered that didn't heal properly she needed power steering and shiftless transmission(so to speak).
I was looking at new old stock 997.1 Cabs and took her by the local dealer to see one. She saw a 996 TT Cab in the corner and announced to me that, "that is the car". We went home to discuss and first thing she did was write a cheque for half as my 65th Birthday present! We're keeping the Turbo as a "TOY" andd the 991S Cab is to be my daily driver (instead of a 2012 BMW 650 Cab).

I will be straight forward and say that I'm not much of an audiophile.
90% of the time I drive a Porsche, the sound system is off (for obvious reasons)
However I wanted to provide some feedback on the new systems from a "how it sounds to me" perspective.
I will not go into all of the numbers because those are out there for all to read and research. And I can't compare the Burmester because, as you know, it is new to the Carrera.
What I will say about the Burmester system is that if you are the audiophile type don't even question spending the additional money. As good as the Bose is, if I were an audio person, I'd get this system. It sounds so clear, rich and deep (even at low volumes) that you can tell it is some type of really high-end system. The base never feels like vibration. And I also like that this system doesn't have to have "surround" to sound full, unlike the Bose. There is no doubt this system is vastly better than the Bose.
As for the Bose, it sounds much better than the 997 configuration and uses no space in the rear deck for sub woofer box. It now has a specific designed spot in the chassis up front in the dash/bulkhead area. It also uses 9.5 drivers in the doors with inverted magnets, making the design ultra thin, freeing up door panel space for storage. The base is much richer than before, especially at high volume. The re-tune of the system has produced a better "Surround Sound" setting, and again I find it is much better at high volumes than before.
And fyi, the Ipod interface is now in the glove box. No more cables and mess in the center console was the reason for the move.
Personally, the Bose would meet my needs. But without a budget issue or if I were an audiophile, I'd not hesitate on the additional money for the Burmester because it is a vast difference in the sound. It's very obvious in fact. (Provided by Abby Normal of Rennlist.)

You are right about the runflat tires. This one aspect of BMW has driven me away from their Brand. I guess if one can feel the roughness and the constant jitter of the Runflats, that individual should be with Porsche anyway...

I have thought about the 650i Cab and am still leaning towards the 911. I told my wife that the 650i is more for, "Old Men," but she does like the pass thru in the 650i. We like to go fishing and the 911 doesn't allow for that. We are thinking about getting collapsible fishing poles...lol

The problem is you have to drive it for longer than just around the block test drive to fully appreciate the Jeckyll and Hyde personality of this amazing machine (and put it in sport+!!!)
Most do not get that opportunity so they walk away underwhelmed... after that it becomes very difficult to convince them other wise.

The problem is you have to drive it for longer than just around the block test drive to fully appreciate the Jeckyll and Hyde personality of this amazing machine (and put it in sport+!!!)
Most do not get that opportunity so they walk away underwhelmed... after that it becomes very difficult to convince them other wise.

Light Design Package
Was curious if the LED's in the overhead console gives a low ambient light while driving. I'm not sure if any of you had previously owned, or are familiar with BMW E39 but in the M5, for example, it had these 2 red lights that would cast a low light from the overhead area to the console below just in front of the Stick shift.
Anyone have the DL on the package?

The light we noticed was the footwell lights. Never noticed them until driving in pitch dark. Our feet seemed like they were glowing. In street driving it was unnoticable. Otherwise I don't remember much ambient light beyond the norm
