Build Timeline Question

Hey everyone, new to the group and impatiently awaiting the delivery of my C2S. My car was delivered to the Port of Emden on the 15th of April, and is supposed to sail tonight for Newark, NJ. I'm told that it takes about 2 weeks on water, and another 1-2 weeks in customs. Does anyone else have a vehicle on this vessel, that may have received more detailed information than I've received thus far? Thanks in advance!

Cool. Our cars might be on the same vessel together. My car was sitting at Emden as of at least April 18th. So there's a good chance both our cars were waiting for the ship to completely fill up before leaving tonight. I was also told 1-2 weeks for the crossing. Mine will be dropped off in Halifax, Canada. Maybe the ship stop there first and then heads down to Newark. I'd be surprised if it's a whole other ship just for the small Canadian market.

I'd love some way to track it too.

Anyone?

Congrats, and agree, I would assume we're on the same ship. This is my first Carrera and the anticipation is driving me (and my family) crazy!

Thumbs up

Thanks congrats to you too. This is also my first Carrera. A C2. Should look like the one in my avatar. I've owned two previous Porsches but both were bought off the lot. This is my first ordered from the factory. Was exciting to get the VIN #. I thought, "It's alive!" Mine is due May 30th at the dealer give or take 2 weeks I was told. Hopefully it'll be a bit sooner if we're still in April and the cars are already at sea.

Wish there was some way to find out what boat it's on and where the boat is. If this were FedEx we could track it!

BTW, I was just in Newark last week on business. Your airport has one runway closed down. It's a pain to fly out of!

Awesome! What are the details of your build? I've yet to receive my VIN, which is a bit disappointing.

That's funny, I thought the exact same thing! I was able to track my LED side markers but not the car itself, ha!

Yeah, EWR is a mess. A friend of mine works at ATC and told me the work was coming. It's my home airport and he told me to expect 45 minute delays on all arrivals and departures.

Alright, well we'll pool our resources and figure out where our cars are at.

I ordered mine March 11th. Last Friday April 18th I asked my salesman if he had any news and he gave me the VIN and said it was sitting in Emden. He said they load it on to a ship, wait till that ship is full and then sail across the Atlantic. He said it usually takes a few weeks and then it arrives in Halifax where it's loaded onto a train for the trip to Toronto. That can be another delay as they have to wait till the train is full. You're probably in a little better situation in that you live at the port basically so once the ship arrives you've got your car.

I ordered a bare basic C2. Only options were the 20" Carrera wheels, heated seats and PDK.

How about yourself?

nj991s, epic build. Hopefully you're in the home stretch, with just a few more days/ weeks until your car arrives. I think about 10-14 days to cross over from Europe, and then about another week once it gets to port here in the US. Sounds like your car will be in NJ already, as opposed to most which come into Rhode Island. Congrats and can't wait to see pics of that beauty!

Appreciate the kind words eg991! I just emailed the dealership to see if it is, in fact, on the water. Man, these last couple weeks have been torturous!!

I'll bet. I remember those days well, though I can't say fondly. I can tell you, though, the wait is worth it. The 991 C2S is just an awesome car. And, I'll be interested to hear your views once the car comes in but IMHO, the 7MT in the 991 is the best manual I've ever driven, period.

I'm definitely excited! Funny, when I take delivery and drive the car off the lot it'll be the first time driving a 911. I had a Boxster about 10 years ago; I assume it's a night and day comparison. Yeah, I couldn't see myself building this any other way than with a 7MT. I know there are some great reviews on the PDK, just something about going through the "H" that makes you one with the car.

Ask for the name of the ship. There are tracking apps.. It is out of range once you get out on the open sea's but at least you will know when it hits port in north America..

Thanks for the post scatkins. I'm still awaiting confirmation that it has sailed, and I'll be sure to ask for the vessel name for tracking!

Your build looks great. I asked my salesperson for the name of the ship today and am waiting to hear back.
