Adding PSE to my base 991 (questions)...

Hi all,

I have been thinking about aftermarket exhausts for awhile and haven't been satisfied with the price to sound ratio so far. The "cheaper" ones don't have the exotic growl-pops-gurgles, etc. and the more expensive ones are just that, expensive!

So, after hearing the PSE on sound clips and on peoples cars, I think I'd like to add that to my car. Also, the on-off button certainly is a plus.

Why is it $500.00 more in parts alone to add it to a non "s" model? And, will the labor charges be higher as well? If so, why?

Please, I am a very non-technical guy. Simpler terms the better for me, if you don't mind.

As always, thank you all in advance!

Steve

The C2 does not have the vaccuum lines in place to enable the on/off switch. Those lines cost $500.

The C2S stock exhaust has valves on it, like the PSE, so those vaccuum lines are already installed on the car.

As for growl, pops, gurgles, my installation of the Sharkwerks crosspipe gives that experience. It just isn't able to be turned off.

Thank you for the explanation!

If possible, please post a sound bite of the Sharkwerks. My experience has been after driving around in a car that had it installed that I was very underwhelmed. I mean, the price and ease of installation is fantastic, but it doesn't seem to have the growl that I heard in this clip:

If it does sound like that, then I would opt for the Sharkwerks. My experience tells me otherwise.

Thank you!

Steve

PS: Is it a big job to install the vacuum lines? How much time is it to have the whole thing installed?

Hi Steve

got the local dealer here in Johannesburg to do it.

took about 8 days to get it here from Germany.

went in at eight and was done by 4 in the afternoon.
it also gets a reprogram and the on off button installed.

i searched long and hard (6 months for a replacement) from stock and eventually decided the boys at porsche know best so i got the PSE.....

on normal mode with PSE on no major pops or crackles but when in sport or sport plus...damn, its like they changed the mapping or something as i get it every time i let go of the throttle.....in fact i love it so much i even blocked the sound symposer to hear the exhaust its addictive. and lets just say i get a lot of head turning even a mate at work called me after i passed him in a tunnel on the way home to say i gave hime the biggest fright as i passed it was so loud ha!!

I've called a few dealerships and, based on my research, the added cost comes from the PSE-compatible side mufflers--which come standard on the S, but not on the 3.4.

I'm waiting for an email back from one of the local Porsche departments, but 911cv's list of PSE parts seems to confirm this based on his own vehicle being an S: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ts-prices.html

The PSE wasn't enough for me, from the "pop, gurgles" perspective. At high revs you get them at lower revs it's very under pronounced. I added the Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers and now it's perfect. I didn't buy their tips, which put just the mufflers around $1500.

I got it done three months ago, it was the best thing i did for my car.

PSE really has the perfect sound, not obnoxiously loud, but loud enough to make you smile. Plus being able to control it via a button is also great.

I believe when they order it for a base they include the new tips whether you already have them or not... so its possible that contributes to the price difference.
