Engine stumble threads are really holding me back from ordering one for myself...
Dear 991 911 owners... I have been dreaming about owning 911 my entire life.
I am an accountant myself, living in California, late 30s. Almost every day I spent hours, even during busy tax season, configuring different options on Porsche website, reading reviews here on 6speed and other sites just like most of you have done before you pulled the trigger. Everything was all good to place an order until I read engine stumble threads here in 6speed six month or so ago.
I thought only the few member here has this issues with their cars. Then I see more members are telling they are indeed having same engine stumble issues. Then the engine stumble polls started by Dux last night (correct me if I am wrong) made it very obvious that 4 out of 10 991 911 have engine stumble - fishing tagging issues. Even though sampling number is small, but it definitely means something.
I really hope Porsche comes up with the fix so I can order mine. But based on how Porsche dealers or field tech responded to this issue as described in many threads, I don't think Porsche will come up with fix any time soon.
Just like Money said...I want to pretend this isn't happening...

Benexpress - It's a fantastic car and my third 911 in 2 decades
Unfortunately the problem is that it's literally the luck of the draw.
You might end up being part of the 60%, or heaven forbid, the dreaded 40%.
Personally I think the numbers are probably more like 85 /15.
But to make matters worse, like Money, I too was one of the lucky ones until one day I realized that something didn't feel the same anymore. And you will feel it.
After lots of testing, (gas / filters / temps) and with the help of some selfless folks and moderators on this board, my findings culminated in the need for a poll to validate my sanity.
The sad thing is that there is a fix to eliminate this, otherwise we'd all have the same issue across the board.
Porsche is apparently still unaware of the power of social media, in spite of their massive FAIL with the Nick Murray disaster.
Great car - bad attitude towards service.

Don't kill the dream off just because of the engine problem we're talking about. There's a good chance that your car will not even have such a problem, since it is only affecting a certain number of us owners.
I do think, however, that this will be the next Murray-like adventure, and that Porsche will have to address the issue sooner than later. So, keep checking up on us...

Why don't you write the same letter to Porsche Cars of North America? I think it would be nice for them to read about a potential buyer concerned about their cars and why he may not be buying one.
Look at the hard time that they gave that one guy over just one car! One car! They could have just taken care of Nick's problem in a heart beat. Instead, they decided to be ****** about it.
Don't expect them to voluntarily try to take care of a problem like this one if it affects hundreds or thousands of cars. Unless they start catching fire, ain't nothing going to happen!
Only a car catching fire gets them bad publicity.

Dux / Christophosphorus / STG958,
Car buying experience should be a pleasant one. I never thought purchasing a 911 would be a palm sweating Russian roulette like lucky draw. I never been this hesitant when buying cars. This is just plain stupid...
I have shared what is going on with 991 911 engine with my friends on the other side of the planet. Let's see how many 991 911 owners in other countries have same fish tugging issues and if they were treated by their dealers the way most people have been in US.

I love STG's recommendation. Why don't you throw yourself into the mix and write a letter to PCNA telling them about your plans to potentially ditch a Porsche purchase based on this?
I feel like the only way you guys can get this issue addressed (and hopefully resolved) is if there is another huge outcry from the enthusiast base that can leak into mainstream news/articles. I bet we can make it happen again...
I am on my third Porsche and have not had any mechanical problems (I may have just cursed myself) but OP, if you are waiting to buy something that has zero issues, you have no car manufacturer to choose from. Across the board and compared to other automakers, Porsche is quite high in all the quality surveys.
Even with the issues I'm having I would never own another vehicle. I've only owned 911s since 1998. I highly recommend a 911. With the new computer-controlled cars there are bound to be software-related issues. I think that's all it is - something in the variocam management. The good thing is these issues can be corrected! Otherwise a very stable, solid, sports car.
I'm torn on this one. Some days I want to get rid of the car, other days I couldn't imagine not owning it. If I stay off the highway, it's only moderately annoying. If you have the issue and you do a lot of cruising in 6th or 7th gear, it's going to drive you freaking crazy. I have literally tried not to think about it for the last month and a half. I even stopped posting and checking the forum.
If I hadn't just bought an M3, I would be pressing the wife for a swap for the GT3. I do think if I worked hard enough, I could get the dealer to work with me. I really, really don't have the desire to spend hours and hours going back and forth 50 miles to have my car poked and prodded with pretty much a guarantee of no results.
I think this why it's so frustrating. I could spend every waking moment battling with Porsche, or I can try and live with the problem. I couldn't sell the car to anyone other than a dealer without completely deceiving them. A dealer is going to rape me. I make a pretty sizable amount of money, but losing $30,000 in 7 months of ownership is sickening. Sometimes I wish the car would just catch on fire.
All this, and I still love it.

Doc / Stealthboy,
I agree that no car manufacturers make cars with zero issues, but there are some issues that I can live with and some issues such as engine stumble that I want to stay away specially when there is no fix to it. At the end it is me alone have to make a purchasing decision, but I feel much better now after I shared my feelings with 991 gurus here.

Most of us don't have time or the energy to fight this brick wall, and may ultimately just accept it and the resulting despondency.
Unfortunately my conviction is now stronger than ever, fueled by stories like this.
Exactly what Porsche loves. They keep coming back no matter what....
Maybe a threat of not wanting to buy or risk another 911 purchase would get their attention instead of a slobbering love letter...
Not to pick on you, but hope you get my point.
