I'm pissed!

So, my wife and I are relocating to Los Angeles and we contracted with BEKINS for the move. BEKINS came today to load my 911 GTS and, along with their moving truck, came Carlito's towing with a flat bed. Apparently, the flat bed was needed to lift the car to the level of the rear door of the moving truck. Long story short, the flat bed driver scraped the lower lip of my car...everyone saw it. I even pointed it out as it was happening and the BEKINS crew, who were supervising Carlito's flat bed driver as he was loading my car onto the flat bed, pointed in the direction of that driver. I told them that as far as I was concerned this was primarily BEKINS' problem since my contract was with them. Anyway, I contacted BEKINS as well as my insurance company, GEICO. BEKINS is pointing in the direction of their local affiliate, BEKINS A1, who haven't returned my calls and GEICO, who was on it quickly, tells me that Carlito's says their driver wasn't in my car!!! Guess what? My wife filmed everything! The scrape is probably a $500 paint job...no big deal in the scheme of things, but these people need to step up.

Sorry to hear this. I hope they step up and take care of you. No one wants to take responsibility anymore...

Exactly! Thanks big time for understanding my point. I'm paying BEKINS $11K for this move and you would think that amount is incentive enough. Anyway, thanks for the support.

I don't mean to be sarcastic or otherwise not sympathetic. Why would you trust your car to a commercial moving company? Why didn't you use a carrier that specializes in exotic car moves?

Because they're a national company and that's what they do??? What can I say? BTW, I did reach out to a few so called "specialty" companies and wasn't impressed. One guy telephoned but never emailed his credentials and 2 others didn't go west.

CSK 991 C4S is infamous around these parts
If you haven't scraped that front on something before now it was bound to happen.

Have them buy you a new one..... have it painted and put it away for when you crack the one that's on there now.

I'm fine with the inevitability thing, but it's no fun watching someone else do damage to my car. So, the BEKINS guys that were there spoke up and confirmed what happened and GEICO has already approved a no-fault claim.

Sorry this happened to you. I've seen this too often and would not have let a furniture mover touch my car. Auto transport specialists (some good, some bad) would be the safer choice for an expensive (and low clearance) car. But that's all hindsight now. Sounds like you have a plan to get the car fixed. Take the high-road and be a reasonable and persistent client and you will come out fine. Best of luck.

Agreed as to all. I will say, however, that GEICO makes it extremely easy to take the high road because they always step-up for their customers...I have been with them for almost 25 years. I plan to sort all this out once I'm situated in L.A.

Can anyone recommend a good paint and body shop in West L.A.?

Hang in there! Sounds like this'll be taken care of one way or another. If it doesn't, a little nudge from an attorney and/or a demand letter will get things moving.

Until then, enjoy LA and don't worry about it too much.
