Engine clicking noise

Hello, all.

991.1, 2014, C4S Cabrio, 6K miles. Had the car from new and never had an issue.

Yesterday, after a 50 miles run when I was parking the car I noticed engine clicking noise. The engine was already warm and the click was "loud". I recorded the following 2 audios one with the PSE on and the other with PSE off. In both audios the car is stationary and switching the PSE on and off didn't change the noise.

Any idea/experience before I take the car to the dealer please (car still under the warranty).

Thank you

OP, only time I've heard a clicking noise is after start up when the car hasn't been started for many weeks. I'm assuming the oil was just not yet fully distributed. This winter perhaps I'll add an additive to help oil stay on metal. B&G comes to mind. As for you case, how's your oil level?

I guess it isn't much of a problem. He hasn't come back after 9 months. This post and many others should be removed with this sort of response.

Interesting thought. Let's say you initiate a post and at 100 views with zero responses the post is automatically removed. That would erase many posts...

My guess is the OP let his oil get too low, and on the long drive it finally got to a super low point enough to insufficiently lubricate the motor.

Nah. If the oil level was low what would happen is what oil was present would not have time to lose some its air and the lifters would tick from this aerated oil.

My WAG is the noise was clutch/transmission rattle. The noise was not really in sync/time with the engine RPMs. My 996 Turbo would make this noise after a good run with the transmission up to temperature. I could depress the clutch and the noise would go away and stay away when I released the clutch but if I rev'd the engine up then let it return to idle the noise was back.

Didn't think too much about this but more recently I noticed the noise was gone. I'm not sure when it went away but I did get new O2 sensors installed at around 132K miles.

Then at over 140K miles I had the plugs and coils replaced. The plugs had about 10K miles left to go before they were due but the tech said might as well change the plugs at the same time as the coils and I agreed.

After the sensors were replaced the engine ran better.

And then after the plugs and coils were replaced the engine ran better. While I have had the plugs changed before when due on miles the engine never ran better (or worse). I'm attributing the improvement to the coils then.

At any rate after an long drawn out "tune up" after which replacing the sensors and the coils and plugs the transmission rattle was gone.

too bad there was no response form OP, my 2013 991.1 just started doing the same. just noise is not as deep, a little on lighter sound but same erratic ticking that increases in frequency a little with RPMs.
its not the normal valve ticking, that's for sure.

Ticking is common in these but not what the OP experienced; however, changing to 5/50 from 0/40 eliminated 90% of the noise in my car, which is also approved by Porsche.

Change to 5/50 from 0/40. Its Oil viscosity.

My noise was a little more like random tin can tick. . Master tech at dealership said it was headers and cats ticking from temperature changes.
When I changed headers, the noise was gone.
