H-Power with out the noise!
H-Power with out the noise!
I would like to add H-Power to my 2002TT with out all the noise some exhaust systems provide. Anyone know of a sport exhaust system with less noise. I could go a little loader than current OEM system.
Also, any other additional mods to gain power?

The quietest exhaust available is probably the Ruf, but it has 200 cell cats, which restricts power some...the Ruf is $7000 I think. Next quietest would probably be the Europipe Stage 2 Quiet. It comes with 100 cell cats for max power, but it is heavy just like the stock exhaust...it is around $5000. Milltek makes a fairly quiet exhaust with 100 cell cats, but then again, it's $4000. For some reason, quiet exhaust's are very expensive!!
The Maxspeed exhaust has been getting good reviews from fellow board members, and it is priced very reasonably..around $2200 I think. It isn't as quiet as the other 3, but it is available with silencer rings, which supposedly quiets things down.
There are several options..do a search and read up on your options.

Fabspeed costs about $3300, there are some videos from the website...

I have the FS quiet as well, but I wouldn't really call it quiet. It is quieter than some others and can be driven through a neighborhood without rattling windows if the rpms are kept below 2200-2300. Pretty sure it has 200 cell cats.

Loving the Agency Power/Vivid Racing Model: AP-996TT-170 at $2,474.99 No complaints at all--quiet around town, no one notices it's not stock unless they are into Porsches & then they notice it's slightly louder. Tromp on it, do some pulls & it sounds great--can still hear the mechanicals. Long ride--there's no drone or high decibel torture. It's working for me and the price is great when you look at some of the other prices folks are throwing around for a muffler you can live with and not feel like an 18yo with his 1st EVO or WRX--nothing against them, great cars.jj

Europipe...sophisticated sound, but the only "downside" is the cost...and I installed an EVOM set of their equal length race headers which deepened the sound of the exhaust system a bit, but you can hold a conversation or listen to the radio in cruise mode....but they pretty much all bark a bit at WOT....some a lot more than others. Don't buy anything till you actually hear one.....a lot of hype and marketing terminology designed to talk you into a particular brand....but go listen first before you plunk down several thousand dollars. You usually see the used sets on eBay because the guys buy them then decide they're too noisy, drone too much, or they dont' like the actual sound. I bought mine used after listening to a set...and EP uses 100 cell cats....but I've never heard of anyone throwing a CEL with a Europipe set up.
Also, regardless of who advertises that there is "absolutely no drone"....there really is no such thing. Any exhaust system will produce a drone....maybe not a very loud or annoying drone....but at certain rpms under certain load conditions....you will get a bit of drone. Anyone who says "absolutely no drone"....would have to admit that there is a bit at a certain point in the rpm band. My Europipe has a hint of one at low rpm when taking off from a light...but it's nothing annoying and it passes quickly...I just can't seem to keep the car running in the lower rpm band....what the hell...it's a Porsche!

If you are going to put down $5,000---$7,000 for a muffler you had damn well make sure that you like it. Unless of course like so many of the astoundingly wealthy on this forum, cost is absolutely no object what so ever. Then just buy the most outrageously expensive exhaust system you can find for your 996tt because we all know that if you pay a lot more it's got to be the best & even if it isn't you can put it in your little list of mods & everyone will know here's someone that knows how to spend an absurd amount of money on a muffler.
