New Suspension thoughts
New Suspension thoughts
Guys, I'm considering redoing my suspension on the Turbo. I'm currently running HR swaybars with adjustable drop links, and PSS9 shocks. I'm considering control arms and camber plates, as well as new toe links... Ideas, thoughts, links to products?

hi mike, I just has motons and all the peripherials installed. mike @ AWE board sponser can hook you up. having some issues with my motons and hope to soon have it all resolved. anxious to start sorting out my suspension and dialing it in.
I have the full "race" JIC's. I chose this over motons as didnt feel I would get the most out of the motons. no question they are the best of the best and some day may go to them but since I didnt.........
went with the heaviest valved JIC's and there 10/14? spring set up. they come with camber plates a must for the negative camber needed and Mike that may be your biggest problem
I have front and rear GT3 hollow sways. also I think the rear toe links are a must to hold toe in place.
this set up is ok for under 500hp cars with stock brakes. since that is not my car the only thing I went back and changed are the springs.
the car has so much power that it would still squat and so much brake hp that it would still dive.
took the massive rear springs and put them up front and took cup car level springs for the rear. ah, that did it. my car is set up and "to me" handles like any race car I have ever driven or been in.
is it the best no but for me it is better than I will ever be for less that half the price of motons.
again the motons if you have the correct support and carry a nitrogen tank around with you is certainly a better way to go, just my be overkill for most of us.
my 2 cents
for actual spring rates ask Bob at Vortex.....813-874-1911

I think you should just copy Tom and use his solution (that must have taken some time and effort to figure out) and copy it. Done.
Tom, that was very nice of you to share. I might some day copy you too.
If you need more, you'll probably have a cup car at that point you are getting so fast.
Best to you. You can probably sell the PSS9's fast at least. Keep us informed. I am really amazed by how fast you are getting....

Mike -
If your car is still to be driven on the street, you are going to want to be able to adjust the alignment yourself between events. I bought the Agency Power rear upper control arms and TRG rear adjustable toe links from Dan at Vivid Racing. That works well - it is quite easy to go from -1 deg camber on the street to -3 deg camber for the track.
Fronts are still a problem for me. I have the PSS9's, and there is just not enough adjustment, even after grinding out the camber slots, to get the full range of camber. I currently have the GT3 2-piece lower control arms on order. My hope is that I'll be able to get the adjustment I need using shims between the sections. I won't know for a while, as I'll be out of the country for about 6 weeks.
Good luck!

Thanks for the comments guys...
What I'm trying to get here is options... Just "Doing what Tom did" is one, and I like it. But I also want to see what else is out there. If I can make the PSS9s work for a while longer, and just do the toe links, camber plates and adjustable control arms, That may be the route I go until I can go all out with motons or JRZs. I'm of the opinion that if I'm pulling the PSS9s, I want to go all out, and do it once and only once. I already have the TRG and Tarred adjustable droplinks...

Dump the PSS9, get JIC Cross that include the camber plates and pillowball mounts then get my rear adjustable control arms. Maybe I can redeem myself with you Big Mike. If you get the JIC Cross I will send you the Front Sway Bar links for free.
Holy cow Mike, you've been going pretty fast for not having an good alignment, and by that I mean enough camber to get rid of a huge chunk of understeer. You'll be amazed how much faster you can go. I'd ditch the PSS9 asap. But I feel you on wanting to go big or go home.
Personally I havent pulled the trigger on Motons or JRZ because I dont have anyone to set them up for me, and I like self dependance, I dont want to be dependant on someone for everything. And the JIC are simple enough for me to adjust as I like and know what I'm doing.
And I havent bought new springs for the JIC because I might up and one day get the Motons or JRZ. I have time though, I havent maxed out what I have yet, but I'm close.

Thanks for the offer Dan. I already have the TRG front drop links and the Tarred Rear drop links on the car, along with HR sways... I think I'm going to wait until after the end of the season and gutt the suspension completely. I'll probably just buy some camber plates for right now, get thru the next two events and see what's what. I really want to go with Motons or JRZs if I tear into this thing and replace all the components, and do it right.
Dez, Thanks for the compliments. Yea, I'm running a maxed out 1.5 degrees negative front with 1/16th toe in on the front. Rear is 2.0 Negative with 1/16th toe in. I've got to do something to this front end to get more grip, that's for sure.

Me, I'd just do Tom's set up, get the control arms from Dan (and JIC's and springs)....and do the set up now. You'll just waste the labor for the cambers and the corner now otherwise...just me. If you are sure your are going to do it. Really sure, I would do it now rather than in the winter. You are likely to just be frustrated between now and April otherwise...not worth it in my book.

Mike,
I would go with JIC / CROSS. Just be ready for any disappointment with their customer service. Dan at Vivid would help you much, but as a JIC / CROSS Ex-employee, I need to give you a heads up. Their customer service sometime can be nice but sometime can be sucks. Depending on the owners mood, like the way he did to my paycheck. He gives me a decent paycheck when business is good and cut out my paycheck when he doesn't have enough money for his own pocket. Yes, Hi Jon.
But, hey, i still suggest you to go with JIC / CROSS, they are a very nice product, just not the customer service. Let me know if you need any help though. Dan, also hit me up if you need help whenever Jon doesn't have time to help you. Oh wait, in second thought, he will make time for you since he can't loose your as a dealer. Oops, I am thinking out loud. Oh well.

Ben, my brotha, I appeciate the back up to me. We have known each other a long time. But please dont let your personal experience as a JIC employee affect the product function and quality. You as a person did alot for us and I was sad to see you go. You really brought a difference to the JIC customer service.
Lucky enough, since we have such a STRONG relationship with JIC, all of our customer receive not only the best product, but the best service too. Sad to see you go man, keep in touch. Or hey, come on out to AZ and start working! You need my cell, just PM me. Maybe soon Vivid Racing will take over JIC distribution, who knows?
Mike - the good thing is we are Moton's newest distributor - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/moton-m-431.html
