How good is tiptronic on the TT?

Matt, you stated; "they have choosen to adopt a sequential transmission".
A sequential transmission can be a Tip. Actually sequential means one gear right after the other, usually up and down. In today's usage it generally means a fore and aft movement of the shift lever with or without a foot clutch.
So it may be semantics but a sequential transmission doesn't necessarily imply that it is an electro-hyrdaulic or some other form of automatic clutch actuation.
I am glad you have "disdain", it adds some character. Although I disagree with you. I can't find it in my heart to disdain anyone who gets out of some form of "peoples car" and into a Porsche, even if it is a tip.
As far as the "marketing gimmick" you mention (notice the two "mm" in gimmick by the way) I think the best one would be in the early 911 where Porsche put lead weights in the front bumpers to keep the proletariat from tail swapping at every stop sign! I suppose if it comes to that Twin Turbo's are a marketing gimmick to bring attention to the performance potential of Porsche cars, knowing that many people will not be able to afford them or actually want them.
Oh and keep it up, I haven't had this much fun in an obscure and essentialy meaningless argument since my friend and I debated whether we liked Dolly Parton better before or after her breast reduction surgery!

A seq. gearbox is any gear box that shifts by moving a lever 2 oppsite ways, to shift up and down respectively with or w/o a clutch.
A seq. manual gearbox is the same, however utilizes a clutch, either engaged by a foot pedal, or by a electro-hydrolic mechanism.
BTW, pointing out spelling errors is about as immature and rediculous as can be. We all type fast on here and not everyone is a human dictionary. But there is nothing more exhilerating than pointing out some of the shortcomings of others, is there.
Arguing with many of you about this tiptronic **** is about as pointless as trying to argue with President Bush. Most of you are all biased as it gets, wont listen to anyone else, even with hard evidence and facts, like a race horse running a track with blinkers strapped to their heads. This has been quite entertaining for all of us I am sure, but I have exhausted myself on this topic and realized that sometimes, no matter what you do, you just cant get through to some people.

However on all other points I agree to Garey's post (which was brilliant besides the remarks about Matt's minor typos).

This thread is

Matt, I hate to say it man, but after reading all this, you sound like a car-board of equivalent of the cocky teenager who "has life all figured out" at age 16.
Against whom was that statement? My current TT is my 7th Porsche... and 5 of them had a manual transmission.
Here's my personal porschography:
1993: 83' 911 SC
1996: 90' 944 S2 Cabrio
1997: 96' 993 C4S
1998: 98' Boxster (Tiptronic)
1999: 99' Boxster S
2002: 00' 996 TT
2004: 02' 996 TT (Tiptronic)
btw. ...all cars were black (non-met.).

I dont doubt that a better driver in a tip can beat me on a track, but it is still chicken **** to drive a tip imo.

Seriously tho, I have a 320hp car that would lap circles around you on a road course.
And Im not talking about your M3 chump!

If you're in high school and rent a car for a day to toy around with a chick then it's gotta be an auto (column shift) with bench seats. Your right hand should be on anything but a stick.
Italian automatic = Cool
German Automatic = Gay
German Automatic = Gay
haha, although I have only driven a tip in an S4 and various smg bimmers I must agree that I can't stand any kind of auto in anything resembling a performance car. Oh ya even, the volvo I drive now has a 5 speed
