Need some help for a mod i'm doing
I have my electric exhaust cutouts going on the car today but I have to figure out how to get the wiring from the cutouts on the exhaust to inside the car to a power source and a place I can install the switch.
Have any of you guys ever run wiring from the engine compartment to inside the cabin to a power source?
Suggestions needed
I'm getting it done this afternoon so i'll post up when i finish

I was giving ALOT of thought to doing this mod.
My plan was to use a switch from the 996 Targa that looks like a gate opening and closing and to install it in the dash location. See here:

It's the bottom left switch.
The part for the Switch (called a Tip Switch) is P/N 996-613-119-10-A05 and lists for $23.56.
More info on wiring the switch here:

Good luck!! Looking forward to your results.

If you have an 01 and order a switch, then gloss black will match better than the flat black. Also there are two dummy swiches in the center console, these maybe easier to reach from the rear. Pics? good luck.
Awesome guys thanks. I'm wiring it up this weekend.
I got the cutouts installed and there's only one word to describe the results: WOW.
Holly hell it's amazing. I coupled this with upgrading to K24s from K16s, 5 bar FPR, p/p manifolds, FVD tuning for straight pipes, etc...
This car is freakishly fast for how few mods it has!! I noticed more lag with the K24s but now with the cutouts open it pretty much gets rid of any and all lag.... It feels like a K16 car again but with the heavy power load of a K24. It's amazing.... very very loud, which is why I like being able to "turn off" the loudness.
It's been drizzling here today so the road is a little damp but I had PSM kick on at 72 mph to give you an idea that it's having wheel spin at that high of speed!! Earlier in the day it was only coming on at about ~50mph... But with the cutouts (and same weather condition) its making even more power at the top of 2nd so it spun them at 72... Amazing.
I'll post up pictures of the whole install (only took 3 hours) and what all we did. It came out great!!

On this car, they're obviously in the back, and right near all the other noises of the motor/exhaust so the "pfff" sound is either non-existent or almost impossible to hear.
I hate leaky sounding exhausts and this certainly doesn't give off that sound. It's amazing. I ripped around yesterday afternoon like a mad man making everyone around me deaf
then I closed them and took my girlfriend on a date downtown in a seemingly "stock" 996 Turbo with a "stock" exhaust...
.... Great thing is, she didn't know I had done the mod till I told her. She hates loud exhausts, and the entire evening driving around she didn't once second guess that I had modded the exhaust in any way... Till I showed her haha. So it's a loud, hp-adding "Wife/Girlfriend-proof" mod, guys.

Keep in mind, the tune on my car is for Straight Pipes. I don't get on it much when they're closed, but when I do, the car runs great, only lags some of course, and is a little less powerful.
If you do this mod without having a tune for straight pipes, I don't know what kind of gains you'll see other than much quicker spool. I suggest you get a straight-pipe tune if you're going to run these, that way when you're wide open with the cutouts open then you're car is making the maximum horsepower for the modification that's done.
