Peeling clear coat on brake calipers!!

Gents- the clear coat on my front brake calipers has started peeling (photo attached). If you look closely at the bottom of the caliper you can see the difference in the finish. Without the clearcoat the red paint becomes very cloudy.

I've refinished BMW calipers in the past, but never a set with clearcoat... Can I just spray on a new clear coat or do these need to be stripped and completely redone? Any paint brand recommendations (does the dealer sell this stuff?)?

Also are there any vendors that do this type of work?

My alternate option is picking up someone's spare set of used calipers for ~$500

You can repaint them yourself. I did mine. Very easy DIY. Get the duplicolor brake spray paint, clear coat, sand paper, masking tape and decals. Do a search on brake calipers. Someone did an excellent write up with pics. From start to finish it took me about 4 or five hours to do mine.

This is very common... If you use them, and use them hard for sustained periods, you'll have the clearcoat burn off and the paint turn a darker shade...

You could get them re-powdercoated. Several sponsors have offer this service.

In the event you attempt a DIY and search the web for caliper paint and stickers, I would like to warn you against doing business with www.xenonmods.com

I will go on record and state publicly that these people are nothing more than thieves and anyone doing business with them risks losing their hard earned cash with no product ever being delivered.

Are you guys just doing your fronts? Does the dupli color match the rear ok, or do you need to do both?

My rears are fine but the fronts are toasted.

In my case I have used red VHT caliper paint and there is a very light color shift but nobody notice so far. You will also need those stickers and, also in my case, the stickers were a little bit too big but.....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6x-Po...#ht_549wt_1536

You'll probably have to do front and rear for them to match. I bought my stickers from Fastforwardperformance in Monterey Park. The stickers are cheap.

Are there any gotchas with powder coating? I looked at the work a local guy did on some brembos on an EVO and they looked good. Its cheap and durable.
