starting car without using clutch

i wanted to be able to start my car without having to depress the clutch, its very simple and only takes a few minutes

you will need a flashlight to see what you are doing, first locate the clutch switch, if you follow the clutch pedal up you will see a small light gray plastic block with 2 brownish wires attached to it

they are attached using female crimps, i then cut the end of male crimp i had and used it to attach the two female ends to each other, i did this becuase if ever i want to reverse this mod it will quick simple and look like it was never touched

once they are attached to each other i tucked them up out of the way, my car will now start without depressing the clutch at all

disclaimer - if you do not remember if you left your car in gear or not you should check before starting the car otherwise you and your car may become severely traumatized and/or damaged, if you are not capable of remembering or checking then you should not do this mod, and probably should not be driving any car period

I'd reconsider if anyone else ever starts your car. I've seen too many idiots start a car while in gear, and stall into whatever you're parked next to. (The first time was a brand new 993 coupe right into a pole. It happened when I worked at a dealer in high school in '95, and the guy tried to pin it on me for leaving it in 2nd.)

no-one else starts my car

in england no-one ever leaves a car in gear unless you are parked on a steep hill, theres no point, thats what the hand break (safety break) is for and i dont remember any car in england ever needing the clutch to be depressed in order to start the car so this mod makes sense for me and proably will for other english people

i'm not saying everyone should do this mod, i'm just explaining how it can be done if you want to do it

this is great info. having to depress the clutch to start is an incredible annoyance and just feels plain "wrong". thanks for posting.

I guess this could also lead to a remote(fob) start install. Be nice to cool down or heat up the car before you got in.

I suspect your cruise control will not work after this mod is done. In a normally wired car, pushing the clutch pedal will disable cruise control.

my friend just installed the Viper 5902 Alarm and remote start for me. being able to start the car a minute or 2 before i leave is very convenient.

we did put in a kill switch for remote start in case the car goes in for service.

Is there a mechanical advantage or disadvantage to starting the car without pressing the clutch?
