Boost Issue.

I have a 2003 996 Turbo. With k24/18g turbos, greddy profec BspecII boost controller.and forge DV's. at first without the greddy boost solenoid just the factory solenoid. At first the car had really Bad boost lag to 1.2 bar. so I got the wastegates tightned. the lag decreased but still made 1.2 bar (im trying to make it get 0.8 bar with the EBC in off mode) few days later I got the greddy boost controller installed.

nothing changed, also turning the boost controller up changed nothing. I went from shop to shop for a few months and found no help. so me and a friend gave it a shot. and we found the boost solenoid was connected backwards. we retuned the wastegates to what we thought was right but we are not sure. also we found a major boost leak in the right turbo banking all are fixed..

also pressure testing the y-pipe it wont hold much boost, leaks pretty quick. we are not sure if its the DVs or a vacuum hose (we found 1 disconnected vacuum hose and got it sorted, cant see any more ) . my friend thinks its the dv's. but i dont think so because theyre not stock DVs

right now when the EBC is in off mode the car runs 0.7x BAR and drops to 0.6x bar over 6k rpm.

with the ebc on, the best result we got with gain set at 35% , set gain at 1.15 bar. and set at 65% I get 1.23 bar and tails off to 1.11 bar above 6k rpm, im not sure but those numbers seem high just to get 1.1 bar..

im going to check the DVs and y pipe. i may install a Tial BOV if the DVs are bad. do you think this will sort my problem out, or do i need to give the wastegates a second look. im not sure how to set the wastegate preload correctly. also is there a chance the wastegate spring is tired.

iv had enough shops ruin my car. im just going to do all this work myself but i dont know where to look next.

thanx

Do a boost leak check with at least 30psi of pressure or use a smoke machine if you know someone who has one . It sounds like you still have a major air/boost leak. Do a search here for home made boost leak checkers. If you have to work that hard to maintain boost and stil not hold it, you have a leak somewhere. These cars are notorious for leaks and can leak in the worst spots. You can undo 2 motor mounts and 2 exhaust straps and drop the motor 6 inches or so, huge help doing that...

Sounds like you need a good installer... that is your problem... and I always say that that 50% of the success is during the install...
good luck,
markski

When I did boost leak check, I did it at 20psi. There was amount of air come out from oil cap and breather filter (I have blow though). I could clamp off breather hose but still plenty of hissing noise coming from oil cap. It kinded of overwhelm noise from any other small leak? How did you do it at 30psi? Thanks.

i have a pressure test rig for my car. i got a few new fittings to check the DVs and the y-pipe separately. ill let you know what happens.

does anyone know how to set the wastegate preload tension properly.

Finding a competent mechanic is almost impossible in kuwait. or at least someone who takes a little bit of pride in their work. so i will just do it myself. How hard can it be?

If you have a leak, (at 30psi) it will be louder than the hissing coming from the oil filler cap. You can run your hand over the top of the motor and move hoses and you will here the sound change...you can also remove the oil filler cap and keep your hand over it...
