Snow chains for 295/30/18 tires

I must have snow chains in my car during winter that would fit my tires. I'm not planning to use them but it's the law.

I only managed to find one option till now but it's 400€ for chains I'll never use.

Where should I look? Delivery to EU is a must.

Wait a minute, you want to "do" the winter with summer tires?

We had about 10 days of snow last year. And this is not my only car so I don't plan to drive when we'll have snow on the road or during colder days. So yes, I will keep summer tires. Most of the winter is dry 5-10 degrees celsius.

maybe you can find something out of these links man, the questions is the fine is it less then the cost of chains? if it is you might think about just taking the fine rather then 400$ for the chains you'll never use

So is having the chains in your car a law during certain months of the year regardless of the temp. outside? I'm guessing it must be otherwise you'd be fine driving it only when it's nice since it's not your only choice of vechicle to drive.

From 15th November untill 15th March you have to have Winter tires OR Sumer tires with 4mm+profile and snow chains in the car. I'm going with second one.

@OS Inspector: Thanks for the links. Yeah the fine is less than cost of chains. But I can get fine every day till March so this is not a bulletproof solution

Wow that law wouldn't fly here in America. We're all about making things as dangerous for us as possible even if it kills us. Safety last.

Why not just buy any old chains/cables and affix the 'correct' label to the box?

Nobody is going to try them on, heck, the most you might get is "do you have chains" and you show them the box.

My guess is you could pay two tickets for failing to have chains for the cost of the right size ones!

A

Edit: Speaking of chains- little known fact here in California, when they have "chain control" which requires chains on 2WD cars, they will allow 4WD/AWD with snow/all seasons tires, However you STILL are required to carry chains in the AWD/4WD car... most people don't.

@ard: that's the best idea I heard so far I'll probably go with that. Cheers mate.

@slm4buffs: I'm not exactly sure that safety is the priority here. Sure most of the tires are not performing optimaly on 0 degrees celsius but there is no need for winter tires when it's dry. I think that law should only regulate what kind of tires you can have on your car when driving on snow (and even then only if you are obstucting traffic).

But I think you can imagine what kind of money we're talking about when 95% of drivers change tires in matter of weeks before 15th November.

You might want to consider snow tires and actually driving it. I drive mine year around, sunny days, rainy days, snowy days. We have lots of cold and snow in Iowa, but the car is amazing. Best snow car I have ever owned.

One issue that you cannot impact with chains is the performance of the rubber compound of summer tires in COLD. Forget about snow, soft summer performance tires will be horrible in the cold. It isn't a tread issue, but rather a 'rubber friction' issue.

Don't assume because there is no snow that your summer tires are fine...read up on this a bit for your own safety

ABSOLUTELY. I tried to drive my C6 one beautiful cold day and almost killed myself. Like driving on glass.
