I have this strange noise coming from my steering column when I turn the steering wheel when it rains outside or when my car is right out of the car wash... tonight I managed to capture it with my iphone - any experiences, ideas?

I bet it's a ball-joint on one or both steering links....It happened to me on my DD.

 

Sql_pl, did you get this resolved yet? I have a similar noise, albeit not as loud, that happens usually when its colder outside. From what I have read it is the upper front strut bearings.

 

No, I have not been driving the car lately, it is my Jeep time now. Will have to get around to that at some point though!

 

Thats a noise ill never forget. My 1st car sounded like that, It was a bad strut.

 

Did it sound like that when wet?

 

I made noise most of the time.
