996t brake upgrade - which caliper?

Guys,

I am right at the point of buying a pair of new front 6 spots for my 996t. My options are to go with either the 996 GT3 brake caliper or the 997t brake caliper. So my questions are:

Given that the calipers are the same price, but the 997t pads are $100 cheaper per set am I better off going this way?

Was/is the 997t caliper a better piece of hardware (newer design) than the 996 GT3 caliper?

I believe both are the same for caliper spread and shouldn't affect by brake bias.

So which way should I go?

I'm not sure about stock wheel clearance issues with the 997tt calipers but i know the 996 GT3 upgrade is great and complete is about $2600 from Suncoast.

Either the 996GT3/GT2 or 997tt front caliper will work and are a direct bolt on (same caliper) and will leave your brake bias unaffected. In the rear you should NOT use the 997tt caliper. It is a direct bolt on but the brake bias is different (greater than 996tt)

I think the 996GT2 or GT3 and the 997TT are the same. 6 pot w/ 350mm rotors.

The calipers are the same. The pad price is only different because of the different compounds on GT3 vs. 997tt. The pad shape is identical between the two of them.

The hardware between the two i.e. the retaining clips and locating pads are the same part number, but the caliper part numbers are different. This leads you to believe that there must be a minor difference between the two calipers. The part number for the pad sensors is different though btween the 6GT3 and 7T.

As was mentioned before, will the 997t caliper fit inside the stock 996t wheel?

I am thinking I might buy the 997t calipers as they'd be a newer design in some way and run 997t pads in them as 98% of my driving is on the street, so if the compounds are a bit harder in the GT3 pads I really won't need that. I was originally planning on buying 996 GT3 calipers and pads.

But in either case 997t pads fit in 996 GT3 calipers?

The calipers are for all intents identical. The tooling was replaced, so the part numbers changed.

Pad sensors are likely different due to different wiring lengths. The GT3 and TT have different routing of wiring and brake lines.

Yes, they both fit in the 996 wheels.

The pads are interchangeable, they are the same shape and thickness, just different compounds (Pagid P90 for 996 GT3 and Jurid 555 for 997TT)

Thanks, just checking the part number on the sensors again and they are the same between the 6GT3 and 7TT, 997 612 677 00.

If 98% of your driving is on the streets why the upgrade, looks? You won't stop any quicker.
