LOL@ wimpy! I just got off the phone with Martin, Marks mechanic, and he
said that I would be happier with the 28s. He knows my driving preference
and he knows my car. He's building my engine and he's installing the new
cat-less 3in race exhaust and turbo inlet piping. When my car leaves
Chicago, it'll be a beast. Martin believes the car will be capable of high
4s 60-130 and 10.1s or 10.2s in the 1/4. It boils down to tires and I think
I'm gonna take Mike Baileys lead and go with R88s. I'm also toying with
the idea of a progressive boost controller that works off gear and time/mph

When I get the Porsche back, I'll take a trip up your neck of the woods. I
love Tennessee anyways. You'll be finished with your car and we can
go play with these monsters

I will probably run the r88s jsut to break the 60-130 and 1/4 mile record for
a A28 car then its back to my ps2s for DD.

I don't wanna use drags because for me, the idea is to beat the record with a
true street car in true street trimmings. Yes, it's an R compound but it is a
street, albeit short lived, tire.

I think there's a lot of super high boost and otherwise suspect methods for setting
records and posting good numbers. Especially by some tuners. My car is light but
it has full interior/ carpet, a/c and a kick butt stereo. It's a real grocery getter, so
to speak.

I somewhat agree. I think the only way I got into the 5's was due to my 250lb weight loss (which was not noticeable to anyone except for rear seats gone). My car trapped 133-134 and ran 6.2's with 18g's, injectors and Meth at 1.2bar. I went 5.99 60-130 a couple times after the weight loss mods, but always had traction issues. I think if I sucked it up and bought some good tires, I woulda coulda shoulda run 5.7's or so. I kept a spreadsheet of every single run I ever made. I like to break out every run into ten MPH increments, to see how every run compared to the last, consistancy-wise. Pretty interesting how consistant it got after the meth install. I used to go out and lose 3-5 tenths every run due to heat soak. After the meth, I was always within a tenth or two run after run...with traction being the wild card...

I actually see guys bragging about getting decent numbers with " full weight"
That's like bragging about hiking up a mountain with a pair of shoes 2 sizes
small. Should we give you accolades for being stupid?

The 996 turbo is a heavy car and its laden with rotational mass. For starters,
an outdated all wheel drive system. Should I mention the lead filled turbo
twist? The factory should have called them turbo anchors.

Peel off the awd and the turbo anchors and you have a great platform to work
with. Dear lord, you essentially have a Porsche GT1 engine to play with!

Yep. Well it's being transported as we speak. I drove up and spent the
week last September. I have a subcontractor in Chicago so I visited
him and Markski and I hung out some. I see you live in the area.

I'll probably fly in when Mark and Martin finish the car and drive it back.
It's a straight shot down 65. Not to mention, I like the people in Chicago.
For such a big town, the people are so nice. I'm from the South and nice
counts in my book. Marrkski has threatened to beat me up when he sees
me so I might be coming back with a black eye or broken nose.

Btw, what are the A28 60-130 and 1/4 mile records on a built motor?

Todd, there's very little performance info relative to the 28's. Mike Bailey
and his infamous 4th gear 5.4s is the best I can find. He has a ton of
supporting mods and low 5s is a serious number. Interesting to note,
somebody got a 5.1 out of an 18g. Socratic method says:

A28s 5.4

18g 5.1

A28s are overall superior to the 18gs. They produce more peak power and
they perform better under the curve. Fatter torque band, delivery etc...
It appears there are two issues that conspire to limit data. The A28s are
competing against two more powerful siblings in an arena that favors more
power. The result of which means fewer A28s on Porsches. The second
problem is the traction issue. The 28s produce enough low end torque to
embarrass a Viper and as we all know, poor traction equals poor numbers.
This is why we have an 18g car with better numbers than an A28 car.
Problem identified now I gotta solve it.

That 5.1 18g car was Chris Green...on E85, with big boost, making 700whp...no comparison.

No comparison, I agree, but it also drives home a point I made a few post
back. Some of the 60-130 and 1/4 mile times are skewed numbers and
don't really represent real world duplicatable results.

But that begs the question; How then are we to compare any of these
numbers?

We certainly know what the 18g setup is capable of, in a bare knuckle
no holds barred fight. We also know that low 5s 60-130 is not indicative
of their performance capability.

I've read discussion on this board concerning 16 billet setups. There was
one in particular where a member had pulled a zr1 and some other
members were questioning the validity of his story. I've read other
threads where members were convinced that Todd's 6.3 second k16
car was an aberration and that 16g cars were relegated to the 7s and
an occasional freakish high 6s.

I ran consistent mid 6s at 1.35 to 1.40 bar and equally consistent low
6s at 1.45 - 1.50 bar. I ran a half dozen or so flat 6s and several high
5s at 1.55 - 1.60 In addition, I smoked every corvette, high hp mustang
and Viper in a hundred mile radius of Birmingham including a 750 hp
zr1. I don't mean I pulled a zr1 by a couple car lengths, I left him sittin
still.

Are you in the market for a set of Tial Alpha 28s?

If you are, I might know where you can buy a pair for a reasonable $$$

OK..I just scrolled through my spreadsheet..when I was 18g and exhaust, I went 6.6-6.8. (I had injectors too, but didn't make 1 more hp, they were just for safety).

After adding a 5bar FPR and some weight loss mods (250lbs) I went 6.21.

I then added 100% Meth, and went 6.0-5.99 consistantly. Up to this, I always had stock IC's, stock piping and stock airbox and filter.

All of the above was at 1.1-1.2bar (1.3 on a cool night). We tried for more boost, but it turned out I was out of wastegate.

I then added IC's, Y pipe and piping, but didn't want to commit to wastegate $$$ (and other reasons) and sold the car.

With 18g's, full exhaust, injectors, 5 bar and Meth my car made almost 600whp on EPL's Mustang dyno. I consider myself an average driver, so I think the above numbers are a good "average" to compare to.
