Lugging an engine with a tiptronic?

Can one cause an engine to lug with a tiptronic (e.g. cruising at a low rpm with a high gear)?

You mean bog down? I don't think so...I think that the torque converter will just have some force applied on it and you will just accelerate very, very slowly.

Howabout when cruising at overdrive and accelerate suddenly? If the tipronic fails to change down a gear or two immediately, then will it cause a little bit of lugging?

Well, it certainly won't accelerate as fast as it would if it were to drop to the appropriate gear...if that is what you are asking...

Other than that, no, I don't think the engine should bog.

In my experience, if you accelerate suddenly, just like any automatic, the transmission drops into the lower gear automatically.

Cant lug them, even in sport mode. The tip is pretty smart, nice job Porsche did on this automatic. Any car ( 996tt,996,997 and997S) that I have driven with the tip, behaved well. And in city traffic, makes the cars more fun and less work to drive.

The computer will shift down one gear or two for you 90% of the time when you step on the gas. However, it seems that there is still 10% of the time where I the gear will, for example, stay with 4th when you press the gas and the car accelerates slowly. Will this be similar to a lugging situation.

Initially they may shift erratically, or not exactly like you think they should...however they are adaptive and will "learn" your driving style and should behave appropriately, within a short number of driving cycles. Pretty cool stuff, I suggested a good friend and customer get the 997S/tip over an '04 leftover 996TT/6spd., due to his style of driving, and the fact he wished to be able to give the car to his wife to drive as well, they love it, and are so happy....to the point he suggested I take the car AND my wife for a long weekend over the fourth. I was flattered but declined. Felt a little awkward
kinda like dating a virgin, you want to bring her home intact, at the same time you wanted go out and hammer it a bit.
Poor analogy, but its the nearest emotion I could describe, that would do justice.
