Can't wait to come home to this...
Hey Greg,
I spent time working in Antarctica too! I was a diver, based at McMurdo. Did over 100 dives beneath the ice there... it was a blast! At the time, I only had an old Ford Econoline waiting for my return!

The United States Antarctic Program currently uses Skidoo Skandic, and Tundra snowmobiles. Mainly utility sleds. They need to be air cooled to prevent contamination of the environment by coolant leaks. We remove the oil tanks as the pumps break in the extreme cold and then run premixed fuel.
Just this season I prepped all the old Alpine1 and Alpine2 snowmobiles to be sent back and auctioned off. Those are the old ones with one ski and two tracks. I've got a pic below.

The job is something I just needed to do... Antarctica has been calling me... but it's not how I paid for my car. The pay is decent, but not that good. LOL. Awesome to have met another ice person who also loves these cars!
Take care Cuda!
Greg
We also have about 8 old Elan snowmobiles... they didn't get used this season and I imagine they will be sent back to be auctioned next season. They are tiny and look really fun for buzzing around.
Thanks... I have followed your posts too. You have an awesome car and wasted no time with the mods. I love it. What has been the best mod you have done to your car... if you can name one?
Greg
Those work great for the ice fishermen. Sorry I know off topic, but just out of curiosity, do you send the sleds to the Whitestar Auction in Bronson, MI? I used to live 30 mins away and would frequent often.
granted, I picked them up "used but recently rebuilt" from this forum and 2 of the dampers would not compress...pieces were missing...front springs were incorrect...by the time I had them sorted I could have easily bought a GOOD set of new coilovers. Lesson learned!
Thanks jpflip! I've got a lot more to post. I'm a little behind as our connection is very slow! I'm in New Zealand now but will be posting at least another 6 Antarctica posts. The connection was like dialup in Antarctica... it took 2-3 hours to upload my pics.
JRZ coilovers with a good alignment. Hands down the single best mod I've done so far.
