FWIW, I have seen many a vid of cars driving/racing at extremely high speeds on public highways, splitting traffic on both sides, and that scares the hell out of me.
It takes just one mom in a minivan full of kids who can't judge the overtaking speed of the approaching cars that thinks she has time to make a lane change, resulting in being rear-ended by a 180mph missile.

I happen to agree with your "minivan full of kids" comment and that's the reason I chose to comment in this thread. As I posted, I don't think street racing is anything to brag about but reading the comments in this thread it appears I may very well be in the minority with this opinion (fine by me as I've never tailored my opinions around a simple majority view). It's a shame because there are tons of outlets one could use to explore their own personal driving skill and their vehicles limits without risking innocent bystanders with triple digit street play. SCCA, PCA, POC, NASA (to name a few) events are all readily available.

I haven't street raced in years.
I was on my way home late one night many years ago from a bar(no drinking) and had two street bikes strafe my car on both sides at 160+, which quite literally scared the crap out of me on an empty, quiet highway.
That was when I came to the realization about the "mom in a minivan".
If I had not stayed in my lane, it would have resulted in the death of at least the biker, maybe me, too.
I cringe when I see some of the vids.
Wish I had a car to currently enjoy and a track close by.

Ray, you may be in the minority posting in this thread against street racing, but I’d hope you’re not actually in the minority amongst the Porsche community/car enthusiasts.
Just so that there’s no ambiguity, I think it’s irresponsible and dangerous to street race, and worse still to try to brag about it online. This coming from another fellow PCA instructor. Things can get hairy quickly at speed, and you just increase the chances of harm/damage by doing it in un-controlled conditions on the street. One can enjoy their car being a little smarter.
I say all this having done numerous driving events and racing, having instructed for 10+? years and having lost more than one friend/acquaintance to "accidents". There’s varying degrees of idiocy... And again in my opinion, saying “we all do stupid things at times” is no justification to perpetuate it.

First mistake - you didn't mention it happened in Mexico
Second mistake - you mentioned "First Kill".. that means you are a newbie and everyone started attacking you. Have you ever seen anyone attack BlackHorseTurbo?

You’ve learned fast Grass Hopper.
Don't tell all the vendors that support this forum that its all about fixing door ***** or they will quit advertising all of their tunes and turbos, and exhaust upgrades. Those don't fix door ***** but they sure can make our cars faster. On the track only of course.

I just wish that some people would understand that their opinions are not the only opinions on this subject - or any subject - but that's another post all together. If I could delete the post I would, but can't figure out how to delete it.

And when I come back here to learn how to change my exhaust bearings and piston return springs I will make sure to drive more slowly.

On a sunny day in the Burbank hills, Jay Leno's canary yellow McLaren supercar shatters the silence.
Wedged into the ****pit of the 903-horsepower hybrid P1, Leno darts around a curve and leans into the throttle. With the midday roads free of traffic, the $1.2-million McLaren surges through the canyon with a controlled fury.
"I just can't stop driving it," Leno says at a stop sign, before roaring off again. "It's just a perfect blend of science and technolology.

Leno's canary-yellow P1 was the first to be delivered to the U.S.
"I just can't stop driving it," Leno said. "It's just a perfect blend of science and technology. ... And you get the anthropomorphic sounds of the engine breathing."

"That has the distinction of being the oldest car ever stopped for speeding on the 405," Leno said.
It wasn't the speed that alerted the police. The car's boiler throws off steam and the occasional flame in normal operation.
"You're on fire — and it's a wood car — so you attract some attention,"
They also build custom projects, such as the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado that Leno had his mechanics convert from front- to rear-wheel drive.
"It's
ly fast," he said, popping the hood of the gold coupe to show off the twin-turbocharged, 1,000-horsepower Corvette racing engine. "You pull up next to Corvettes or Porsches on the freeway, they give you a nod ... and you blow by them."

He's put more than 1,000 miles on the odometer since getting the car in March. Although the McLaren could devour any racetrack, Leno usually limits his driving to public roads.
