Question 112 octane fuel

Would I see any difference in my stock TT if I ran a tank of 112 for fun? Just wondering. Thanks!

Question: Is your source of 112 leaded? If so, you'll see a big difference in your catalytic converter's life span.

Using higher octane fuel without a corresponding tune (e.g., timing advance) will only produce marginal improvement. It will enable you to maximize the stock tune, meaning you will avoid any timing retardation that you might otherwise get because of weather, poor fuel, etc. You can achieve these marginal benefits with far less than 110 octane. If you really want to obtain the benefits of high octane fuel, you need to tune the car for the fuel. In that case, the improvement can be considerable.

Leaded fuel will damage your cats and 02 sensors.

No point in running leaded on a stock car with stock cats. You'll kill your 02s while your at it eventually too and the cats

If you want to run leaded, do so without cats and then get tuned but still expect to foul plugs and or 02 sensors a lot more often.

TwinStepGun,
From personal experience, i had fouled my spark plugs after using 112 Leaded race fuel. The outcome was a Detonation that resulted in major intertnal damage. This was very costly. If you would like to use high octane race gas, You can opt for either 100, 101 or 103 for best results. The 103 is the highest street legal high octane fuel.(depending on the State regulations) . The company i will be using is VP Racing Fuel. Here is a qoute/specs about their StreetBlaze 103 from their website:

"StreetBlazeâ„¢ 103 is the highest octane unleaded street-legal fuel in the U.S. This 103 octane (R+M/2) fuel provides power and protection equal to some leaded racing fuels. Typically allows turbo engines to raise the boost from the stock 8-10 lbs. to 20-25 lbs. Although street legal in many states, StreetBlaze 103 is not legal in those states that restrict the use of MTBE. Customers should check local regulations prior to use. "

Fuel Specs:
• Color: Red
• Oxygenated: Yes
• Motor Octane: 99
• R+M/2: 103
• Specific Gravity: .743 at 60° F

Hope this helps !!!

Dont you have to be carefull when using oxygenated fuel in a car that hasnt been tuned to the fuel? I was told by my Sunoco GT Plus fuel supplier that because its oxygenated it would typicaly run 25% LEANER on a car that was not tuned to it!

VP C10 is what you want for a motor like yours brandon if you get a new map, 100 octane (research 104 octane), no lead and not oxygentated....

If your car is tuned for 93/94 octane (the OEM program), you will not experience any difference in performance between 100, 101, 103, 104, 110 or 116 octane. 100 cctane is more than sufficient to maximize the stock tune by avoiding any timing retardation that you might otherwise get because of weather, poor fuel, etc. Anything beyond 100 octane is a complete waste (anything above 97/98 is likely a waste). Therefore, there is no advantage to using 110 octane leaded fuel over 100 UNleaded on a stock program. On the other hand, there are detriments associated with using leaded fuel, including the toll it takes on your cats and O2 sensors.

I personally use Sunoco GT Plus 104 octane unleaded: http://www.racegas.com/fuelspecs/sun...leadedplus.htm . However, my car is tuned for 103 octane.

Sharky occassionally uses higher octane leaded fuel. However, like mine, his car is also tuned for 103 octane, so he arguably might benefit from something north of 104 unleaded (I don't know for certain). Some of the Viper guys run 110/116 leaded fuel, but Heffner and Underground write programs for these fuels in order to take advantage of the higher octane.

The bottom line is that, if you are using an OEM Porsche program, there is no need to incur the damage caused by the high octane leaded fuels. 100 octane unleaded is more than sufficient to maximize the OEM tune.

Craig
