Always take drive shaft out on 996. Unless you like fixing broken parts.

I never had 996 axle issues on my dyno. Stock to 900+ AWHP. Mustang IMP-AWD.

The viscus coupling is too temperamental. The stock tire size is not a 1 to 1 ratio front to back. Lots of couplings are dead.... That can explain why it works for you.
